Today we’d like to introduce you to Delmar Bailey.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey began when I was young, I was always the one the camera was given to take family photos. So I was rarely in any photos and I guess I got use to being behind the camera. I also was big on visual arts so that contributed as well.
Growing up I would draw and do free writing/poetry which I always found interesting but as a young boy I was focused more on trying to play sports. After high school I joined there Maine Corp and served 8 years. Following that I tried different fields of work but none really seemed fulfilling.
So around 2015 I bought my first starter camera and began taking photos of any and everything I could. I eventually began taking photos of people and liked it. By 2017 I began attending Miami International school of art and design to major in photography. Unfortunately the school shut down during the pandemic in 2020.
In 2020 business began to pick up for me, having multiple bookings per month during the stretch of the lockdown. I would shoot just about everything from weddings, birthdays, family photos, maternity, boutiques, and etc. In 2024 I enrolled in Fullsail University to pursue cinematography.
If I had to say which category I like most it would be beauty and portrait, with some lifestyle in there as well. I love the natural side of things, I love the art side of things. I like to create and photography is all about creativity.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road in my photography journey. In the beginning I had learn how to get out of my shell being I am an introvert. I had to attend events which I did find fun and satisfying.
Photography wise I was limited by the gear I had but I made it work. I also lacked a lot of knowledge that could’ve help in the early stages but I learned how to improvise.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about D Bailey Photo?
