Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello! My name is Claudia Behnam and I am a licensed Speech and Language Pathologist here in Pembroke Pines. I was born in Lima, Peru, back in 1984. My family moved to the San Francisco area from 1986-1995. We then moved to sunny south Florida and I have been here ever since. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master of Arts Degree in education. After 7 years of teaching Kindergarten, I decided to continue in my education journey and achieved a Master of Science degree in speech therapy. I greatly enjoy working with kids! After having two kiddos of my own, I decided to start my own mobile therapy practice. I work part time, and have an amazing connection with my clients, my therapists, and my families. It truly does take a village. I am ever so grateful for the opportunity to help the amazing families in my community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Graduate school was definitely a challenge. My daughter was a toddler, and I was a bit older than most of my classmates. However, my husband and the rest of my family were incredibly helpful to me. Soon after graduation, I got pregnant with my son.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My team and I are travel therapists. I do not have an office where clients come to me. We service some homes, but mostly we travel to preschools and see our clients there. We have an awesome office manager, who is also my cousin! She is in charge of many tasks, predominantly billing, scheduling, and parent communication. I also ask that all my therapists send a snapshot of each session to the parents. That way our parents can put a face with our therapists name! My company is also listed with state grants that award funds to parents to be able to pay for private speech therapy.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Flexibility! Things happen, kids get sick, school events pop up, and there are times when our little ones are just not in the mood! I am very flexible, open with parents, and work to keep my families happy throughout their therapy journey.
