Hidden Gems: Meet Christina Nicholson of Media Maven

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Nicholson. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Christina Nicholson is a mother of three, TV host, and business owner who lives in Wellington, Florida.

Christina started her Public Relations agency, Media Maven, after working as a TV anchor and reporter for more than 10 years. You may recognize her from her days as a reporter and anchor on NBC 6 in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale market. Since then, she has created an online course and group program for solopreneurs and small business owners who want to earn coverage in the media, but don’t have a budget to hire an agency.

Christina is also the host of the Become A Media Maven podcast and the founder of Podcast Clout, a podcast database that makes it easier for PR professionals to build podcast pitch lists.

You can still see her in front of the camera as a host on Lifetime TV, in national commercials, on the TEDx stage, and read her work online in Huff Post, Thrive Global, Inc. Magazine, Business Insider, Fast Company, and Boss Babe. She was selected as an Oprah Magazine Insider and Ambassador out of thousands of applicants. In Boca Raton, Christina gave a TEDx talk titled, “Fake News: It’s Your Fault” that has tens of thousands of views on YouTube.

Christina has a local lifestyle and family blog, Christina All Day.

As an avid reader and book lover, she is also a steward of her very own Little Free Library.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Christina says entrepreneurship is never a smooth road. When she started her business, she just wanted to have a flexible schedule so she could get her work done, but also be able to pick up a sick child from school.

In 2015, remote work was not as common as it was today and she struggled to find a boss who didn’t want to act as a babysitter, for lack of better words, so she launched her own PR agency as a team of one. Wearing many hats – operations, sales, servicing, marketing – she quickly became overwhelmed.

After hiring her first business coach, she slowly started building a team. Today, she has a team of eight women who provide public relations and content creation and marketing for businesses big and small across the country.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Media Maven?
As a TV reporter and anchor, Christina witnessed the struggle of business owners to get attention firsthand. She says you wouldn’t believe how terrible the pitches were that filled up her inbox on a daily basis.

She knew with the right moves, anyone could get major exposure and become THE go-to brand that everyone talks about. Spending money on ads isn’t necessary and she thrives on getting the unknown more well-known organically.

That’s why she started Media Maven in 2015 and operates it from the perspective of a journalist and hires former news professionals. Her and her team pitch the media the way they would’ve wanted to be pitched when they sat in a newsroom.

By being featured in outlets like TV, newspapers, magazines, online, podcasts, and more, you are being endorsed by them… and Media Maven shows you how to do it the right way, so you see the snowball effect in the attention you receive and the money you make.

Christina also has a Media Mentoring Program for brands who don’t have a budget for a PR agency, so no matter what your size or budget, she and her team can help through her online course, group coaching program, or joining her for a VIP Day.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Reporting the news in South Florida was the best way to learn everything about the area – the good, the bad, and the ugly. The people and diversity are by far the best things about South Florida. Plus, there is just so much to do… but with that, comes terrible traffic. Uh. Since moving on from the TV news industry, Christina moved north with her family to Wellington. While they are not equestrians, they love the family-friendly city.
