Hidden Gems: Meet Catherine Siegel of Soulful Sessions LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Siegel.

Hi Catherine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2022, I took a leap and moved from Erie, Pennsylvania, to South Florida to pursue my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University. I knew I wanted a career centered around helping people, but I also always had an entrepreneurial side and a vision of eventually creating something of my own.

Throughout my training and early career, I gained experience working in both community mental health and private practice settings. Being able to work with a wide range of clients and see different sides of the mental health field helped shape me as a clinician and, ultimately, gave me the confidence to venture out and build something of my own.

Less than a year after graduating, that vision became Soulful Sessions, my own private practice. I wanted to create a space where therapy felt genuine, approachable, and personalized, while building a business that reflected who I am both as a therapist and as a person.

Starting a business so early in my career has definitely pushed me outside of my comfort zone, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. Getting to support clients throughout South Florida while watching an idea I once had become a reality has truly been one of the greatest experiences of my life. Moving to Florida started as a decision to pursue my education, but looking back, it became the beginning of a much bigger chapter for me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Aside from the many late nights of studying, writing essays, and preparing to pass my NCMHCE exam, one of the biggest challenges I faced happened during my graduate program. I was placed at a practicum site with a supervisor who, rather than encouraging my growth, often made me question my abilities. At one point, she told me I would never be able to start my own private practice after graduation, along with other discouraging comments that could have easily shaken my confidence.

Instead, I chose to use that experience as motivation. Deep down, I knew what I had to offer and the kind of therapist I wanted to become. I refused to let someone else’s opinion determine what I was capable of achieving. If anything, her words pushed me even further toward creating the career I had envisioned for myself.

Less than a year after graduating, I created Soulful Sessions, something I was once told I wouldn’t be able to do. Looking back, that experience taught me one of the most valuable lessons I’ve carried into both my personal life and my work: sometimes you have to believe in yourself before anyone else does.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Soulful Sessions LLC is a private therapy practice I created with the goal of making therapy feel genuine, relatable, and deeply personal. I work with teens and adults navigating anxiety, self-esteem, relationship challenges, life transitions, and those moments when they simply feel overwhelmed or stuck.

What I believe sets Soulful Sessions apart is my focus on getting to the root of what someone is experiencing, rather than only addressing what is happening on the surface. I take a psychodynamic approach while incorporating evidence-based techniques such as CBT, person-centered therapy, narrative therapy, and acceptance-based strategies. Every client is different, so I believe therapy should be tailored to the person sitting in front of me rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

When creating Soulful Sessions, I wanted to move away from the idea that therapy has to feel clinical or intimidating. I strive to create a space where clients can show up exactly as they are, feel genuinely heard and understood, and also be challenged in ways that help them grow.

What I’m most proud of is building a brand that reflects who I am as a therapist. Soulful Sessions is centered around authenticity, connection, and helping people better understand themselves so they can create meaningful, lasting changes in their lives. My hope is that clients leave therapy not only with practical tools, but with a stronger sense of confidence, self-awareness, and trust in themselves.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always extremely social and naturally became the friend people came to when they needed someone to talk to or lean on. Even from a young age, I cared deeply about making sure others felt heard, supported, and included, which I now realize was an early reflection of the work I would eventually pursue.

I was also fortunate to grow up with an incredibly supportive family. My parents and brother have always encouraged me to go after the goals I set for myself, and their support has played such an important role in giving me the confidence to take risks, including starting my own business at 25.

Outside of that, I’ve always had a creative and adventurous side. I grew up with a love for fashion and traveling, sang in a rock band for several years, and played volleyball. I’ve also always loved yoga and reading, which are still two of my favorite ways to slow down and recharge. I continue to play beach volleyball as well. Looking back, I think I’ve always been drawn to experiences that allow me to connect with people, express myself, and continue growing.
