Hidden Gems: Meet Angel Torres of Swim with Ms. Blue LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Torres.

Hi Angel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story started as a swimmer mom. I first became interested in learning how to teach swimming because I wanted to help my own children feel safe and confident in the water.

That became especially meaningful with my older son, Mateo, who is autistic and is now ten years old. Through him, I learned very early that every child learns differently. He taught me the importance of patience, anticipation, trust, and respecting each child’s individual process.

What started as something personal for my family slowly became a passion. I continued learning, training, and becoming more involved in water safety and aquatic education, with a special interest in working with autistic and neurodivergent children. Over time, I realized that I wanted to help other families experience that same sense of confidence and security around the water.

My husband, has also been an important part of this journey. He has supported me from the beginning, encouraging me to keep learning, growing, and turning something that started for our own children into something that could help other families. Having his support while raising our children and building this dream has meant so much to me.

That is how Swim with Ms Blue was born. Today, my work is about much more than teaching children how to swim. I want children to feel calm, capable, and safe in the water, and I want parents to feel educated, confident, and supported too.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing motherhood, continuing my education, building my own business, and giving each family the attention they deserve.

An important challenge has been understanding that every child learns differently. My experience with the neurodivergent community taught me that some children need more time, a different way of communicating, more preparation or simply more trust before they are ready to move forward.

I travel to my clients’ homes, there are also many practical challenges that come with the job. South Florida weather can change very quickly, traffic can make scheduling difficult and every home and pool are different. Sometimes I have to adapt a lesson based on the space available, the pool conditions or even a sudden storm.

All of these experiences have taught me to be flexible, patient, and creative. They have also helped me build Swim with Ms Blue around an individualized and respectful approach, where progress is not only about how quickly a child learns a skill, but also about confidence, safety, independence, and comfort in the water.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Swim with Ms Blue is a personalized aquatic education and water safety business serving families throughout South Florida.

I work with babies, children, nannies and adults, but I am especially passionate about early childhood, water safety, and helping children and families build confidence in the water at their own pace. My approach is respectful, individualized, and focused not only on swimming skills, but also on comfort, independence, orientation, floating, safe entry and exit, and knowing how to respond in the water.

One thing that sets Swim with Ms Blue apart is that I do not believe every child should be taught in exactly the same way. I pay close attention to each child’s personality, developmental stage, communication style and comfort level. My experience as a mother, especially with my son, has deeply influenced the way I teach and has made inclusion and patience a very important part of my work.

I also believe parents and caregivers are an important part of water safety. For younger children, I like to involve parents in the learning process and help families understand that swimming lessons are one layer of protection, but with education, supervision and safe habits are important.

Brand-wise, I am most proud that Swim with Ms Blue has become something families associate with trust, connection, patience, and safety. I want people to know that my goal is not simply to teach a child how to swim. I want children to feel capable and comfortable in the water, and I want families to feel more confident and informed around it.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Some of my favorite childhood memories are connected to sports, school, and family traditions. Growing up, we practiced a lot of sports, including gymnastics, ping pong, and swimming, and those activities were a big part of our childhood.
I also remember our end-of-year school trips with so much excitement, as well as the carnival celebrations in my hometown, Los Teques. Those moments were full of color, friends, music, and community.
And of course, Christmas was always special. I still remember how exciting it was when one of my Christmas gifts was a bicycle. Those simple moments meant so much to me.
