Hi Aja & Alexa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Duet Events was founded on the power of partnership, both in how we work together and in how we work with our clients. We started our careers working in the corporate world – Alexa in marketing and Aja in corporate events. Although we were in different departments, we quickly became friends and trusted collaborators. What began as a professional connection evolved into a creative partnership rooted in mutual respect, shared values, and a desire to do things differently.
The turning point came when Aja was asked to plan a wedding – a request she initially, and politely, declined. But after some encouragement (and a bit of persuasion), we decided to take it on together. That one event sparked something in both of us, a realization that there was space in the industry for a more intentional, elevated approach to planning.
Since then, Duet Events has grown through word-of-mouth and a dedication to excellence. From multi-day destination weddings to large-scale corporate celebrations, we are trusted by clients who value refinement, discretion, and flawless execution. Our distinct yet complementary backgrounds allow us to bring a layered, considered perspective to every event, merging creative vision with strategic oversight.
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all. Every event is approached with fresh eyes and deep intention, designed to reflect the people at the heart of it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like most meaningful ventures, the road hasn’t always been smooth, but every challenge has shaped us into the business we are today.
In the early days, we were building something from the ground up while still working full-time. That meant long nights, growing pains, and a lot of learning by doing (all while Alexa was also becoming a Mom!) Stepping away from the security of corporate life to pursue this full-time took courage, trust, and a bit of a leap.
As our business grew, so did the complexity of the work. Scaling while staying true to our values hasn’t always been easy. We’ve had to learn how to say no, how to protect our time, and how to navigate the emotional weight that comes with planning life’s biggest moments.
But every late night, every lesson, every risk, it’s all been worth it. The hard parts have made us sharper, more intentional, and more connected to why we started this in the first place.
