François Piacente of Coral Gables on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to François Piacente . Check out our conversation below.

François , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My days usually start around 5 a.m. A quick workout session gets the first accomplishment of the day done. After that, I head to the rooftop for some quiet time—it helps me visualize the day and go over my mental checklist. Then it’s on to a nutritious breakfast while listening to a podcast, either about art, automotive topics, or motivation. Once all of this is done, I grab my phone and catch up on messages and emails.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is François. I’m a storyteller originally from Belgium, and I create a mix of architectural and automotive art in miniature.

I discovered my true passion about eight years ago while revisiting a childhood hobby. It took me some time to pinpoint exactly what brought me the most joy when replicating miniature scenes of everyday life.

I’ve always been passionate about the 80s and the overall *Miami Vice* aesthetic, but I never really knew how to contribute to it—until I got better at my craft and found my direction.

I’ve found a lot of joy in creating fictional yet ultra-realistic, glamorous Art Deco architecture, using 80s cars as characters in my scenes.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Exactly how I am now, at this chapter of my life—after doing a lot of inner work. In a way, that mindset never really left; it was just buried deep beneath the programming of a “normal life.”

I just had to rediscover myself.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
As long as you have self-discipline, trust your gut every time—and don’t let anyone stand in your way.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
I like to say that everything usually starts as a fad, and if it stays or persists, it becomes a culture. Not every fad will turn into a culture—only the ones made with pure, authentic intentions.

Of course, once you’re aware of what’s going on around you, you can usually tell right away if something is created with real intentions.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I think I’m finally doing what I’m meant to do, or at least what feels right for me right now. Definitely not what I was told to do.
