Exploring Life & Business with Vanessa Bedoya of Choice MD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Bedoya

Hi Vanessa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In a world where healthcare should be a straightforward necessity, I found myself trapped in a cycle of frustration. Moving for the fourth time—across states and even countries—one thing remained constant: the struggle to find the right medical providers. Each move felt like starting over from scratch, sifting through endless directories, making phone calls, and trying to piece together a support system when I needed it the most. It was an exhausting, lonely process, and I knew there had to be a better way.

My personal journey with healthcare challenges began when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at just 21 years old. I quickly learned that navigating the healthcare system wasn’t just about finding the right doctor; it was about finding the right community. What I needed wasn’t just treatment—it was support, guidance, and access to organizations that understood my journey. It took years of trial and error to realize that the first stop for any patient should be their respective nonprofit organizations. These groups were lifelines, filled with resources and connections that could make an overwhelming diagnosis feel a little less isolating.

That realization fueled my vision for ChoiceMD. I wanted to create a platform that eliminated the struggle I had faced—one that didn’t just connect people to doctors, but to the entire ecosystem of healthcare resources they needed. What started as a personal frustration evolved into a mission to simplify the process of finding medical care and support organizations all in one place.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to building ChoiceMD has been anything but smooth, but every challenge has reinforced my determination. When I first incorporated in 2012, life had other plans—my daughter was born in 2014, and I had to put things on hold. A new baby, a new company, and managing my own health would have been too much at once.

I picked things back up in 2019 when my daughter started kindergarten, only to face an unexpected hurdle: the COVID-19 pandemic. Balancing a growing business with helping my daughter learn to read and write from home was no easy feat. But through perseverance, we didn’t just survive—we thrived.

Today, my daughter is an honor roll student, and ChoiceMD has won four prestigious awards in just five years. The journey has taught me that obstacles aren’t meant to stop us—they’re there to test how much we truly want something. Success isn’t about having an easy path; it’s about staying committed, working hard, and pushing forward no matter what.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Choice MD?
Today, ChoiceMD has grown into something far greater than I ever imagined. We are now a Google-recognized health news source, providing up-to-date, reliable information to the community. Our partnerships have expanded to over 50 nonprofit organizations, ensuring that users have access not only to physicians and specialists but also to essential services like assisted living facilities, schools for children with special needs, and even dental care providers. What began as a solution to my own struggles has become a powerful tool helping thousands of people find the care they need without the guesswork.

At its core, ChoiceMD was built on the belief that no one should have to navigate healthcare alone. My experience with MS taught me that support systems are just as crucial as medical treatment. Through ChoiceMD, we are breaking down barriers, providing clarity, and ensuring that anyone seeking healthcare—whether they are newly diagnosed, relocating, or simply looking for better options—has an easier path forward.

Because when it comes to health, no one should have to do it alone.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
At ChoiceMD, our greatest source of pride is our unwavering commitment to simplifying the path to better health. We don’t just connect people with doctors—we connect them with the full spectrum of resources they need to thrive. Lately, this mission has expanded beyond access to care; we are actively working to prevent and mitigate the root causes of chronic illness, particularly those linked to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

This initiative is deeply personal to me. Through my own journey, I discovered that my ACE score of 7 was a leading factor—aside from genetic predisposition—that contributed to my Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis. That realization reshaped my purpose. Beyond providing directories of licensed physicians, assisted living facilities, and schools for children with special needs, ChoiceMD is now playing a pivotal role in addressing the long-term effects of childhood adversity.

Today, I have the honor of helping create a countywide roadmap for ACEs prevention, ensuring that our community not only has access to healthcare but also to the knowledge and support needed to break cycles of trauma and disease. ChoiceMD is more than a platform—it’s a movement to redefine healthcare, starting at its roots.
