Today we’d like to introduce you to Valeria Lasak.
Hi Valeria, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up in Trujillo, Peru, and spending my summers at Huanchaco beach, I spent my days surfing and enjoying the beach life with my family and friends. My love for learning and studying made me win 3 scholarships and took me to Chile and Canada, and eventually to Spain. There, I discovered the world of digital marketing through Google’s courses in Madrid, which opened new career possibilities for me.
In 2017, while visiting family in Atlanta, I met the man who would eventually become my husband. We embarked on a long-distance relationship, with him in the U.S. and me in Peru. During this time, I was making significant strides in the media and advertising industry in Peru, beginning in 2018. The pandemic in 2020 presented a crucial turning point, as it allowed me to work remotely and therefore, enabled me to live in the U.S. After exploring several cities in the U.S., we were particularly drawn to Miami. Its openness during the pandemic, stunning beaches, and the vibrant energy of its people made it an irresistible choice, leading us to make it our new home.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?Moving to Miami was both thrilling and challenging. The pandemic isolation was particularly difficult, and being new to the U.S., I often felt like an outsider. My biggest challenge was overcoming self-doubt and acclimating to a new culture while establishing my place in this dynamic city. Not knowing many people and striving to improve my English further intensified my feelings of being an outsider.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
In Miami, I started a few cool projects. First, there’s the “Miami Happy Hour” Instagram page. I made this to help people find affordable places to hang out in the city. It’s been great to see how much people like it. It was a practical solution to help people, like myself, enjoy the city without breaking the bank.
Then, I’m working with “New Miami Girls,” managing their social media and organizing events. It’s all about bringing women together in the city, which has been rewarding.
I’ve also launched two new businesses, “Marketing Besties” and “Nomad the Agency.” At “Marketing Besties,” we teach people about social media and marketing. It’s meant to make these big topics easy to understand. “Nomad the Agency” is a marketing agency where we focus on fashion, beauty, and helping influencers get noticed. We aspire to become a leading agency in these fields.
There’s also “Who is She Miami,” a project I’m super excited about. I’ll be using TikTok and Instagram to spotlight amazing women in Miami. I’ll ask them about their names, where they’re from, their jobs, and their dream lives. It’s all about showing off the cool, diverse women we have here.
In all these things I’m doing, I want to help people connect, learn, and grow, whether it’s through finding good deals, learning about marketing, or hearing inspiring stories from women in our city.
Before we conclude, I’d love to hear about how your personal journey in Miami has shaped your current projects. Can you also tell us how people can get involved, work with you, or support these initiatives?
Making friends was crucial to settling in Miami. I turned to Bumble BFF, and it changed everything. Starting with small meetups, I soon built a circle of friends. This experience inspired ‘Who is She Miami,’ a project I’m launching to highlight inspiring women in the city. Despite a setback with a previous business partner, I learned valuable lessons and am now embarking on new ventures in fashion & beauty and influencer marketing with a partner I trust. These projects are about more than business; they’re about building a supportive community and empowering others. We are always open to working with brand ambassadors. Anyone interested in collaborating can feel free to send me a DM on any of my social media platforms.
