Today we’d like to introduce you to Thelmayvette Wright.
Hi Thelmayvette, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was a Licensed Practical Nurse by the age of 18, and a Licensed Cosmetologist by the age of 25. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. I was a regional training manager for Red Lobster for 9 years, Operations Manager for Toys R Us, and A Store Manager for Starbucks.
With over 25 years of managerial experience, I decided to open my own business which has always been a dream of mine. I have a hair salon and I own and operate an organic store that specializes in all-natural hair and beauty products. My salon name is A Divas Playground.
I am currently the only black female-owned retail store in Southland Mall. My retail store specializes in Yoni Feminine Products, Vegan Cold Processed Soaps, Organic Soy Wax Candles, All Natural Sugar and Salt Scrubs, and Essential Oils. I currently volunteer as a guardian ad litem.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been many bumps in the road for me. From going through a rough divorce, having my identity stolen, to being a struggling single parent of two.
We’ve been impressed with A Diva’s Playground, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my company in 2016 I am a Licensed Cosmetologist who specializes in Natural Hair Care, from curls to coils to locs.
I combined my nursing education and experience with my ancestral practices to help family and friends with all-natural plant-based alternatives to healing common ailments. I am a doTERRA Wellness Advocate who uses essential oils instead of pharmaceuticals.
My retail store has a combination of natural hair care products, cold processed soaps, salt scrubs with essential oils, body butter, and dry body oils especially crafted for individuals with sensitive skin. Most of my products can be found on my website, www.adivasplayground.com.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My wife Lawanza Wright help make my dreams into a reality. She gave me the support needed to back my dream and helped with the emotional support needed after countless closed doors.
