Exploring Life & Business with Sonia Chavez of Soy Corredora LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonia Chavez

Hi Sonia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Soy Corredora is a digital platform for runners that I launched 12 years ago in Mexico. The purpose is to inspire, inform, help and create experiences for women to walk, jog or run and regain their personal power.
I’m the founder of Soy Corredora. My name is Sonia Chavez. I started running 30 years ago, first as a track runner and then on the road.
I was 14 years old when my mother forced me to run to lower my teenage intensity. I didn’t know that running would become my safe space to meditate and dream of what I wanted to be when I grew up.
When I was 19 I had surgery on my knees and my parents asked me to run again. I did and joined my university’s track team where I competed in track races. Then I went to work at Televisa and started running road races until I started writing for sports magazines in Editorial Motorpress- Televisa.
I was editorial director of magazines such as Runner’s World and Sport Life in Mexico. One day, after running the Bogotá half marathon, I decided to create a digital platform that spoke only to Spanish-speaking women who run and it soon became the space with the greatest impact. I thought the best name would be Soy Corredora, it’s very powerful.
I had a powerful reason to create I am a runner, in addition to giving women a space to be inspired to move, I wanted to spend more time with my daughters.
In 12 years I have helped thousands of women to run. On social networks we have more than half a million followers, there are 5 business units: content marketing, online store with our own merch, events, training plans and since 2024, we are in the United States, we started in Miami.
Last year we did a summer series in Miami with the Soy Corredora Runs and in October, the first Catrinas race in the United States. We started 2025 with a Running Camp in Miami, and we have several projects for this year, not only in Miami but also in Michigan and California.
I am a runner, it is not a running club, today it is a women’s movement that inspires others in the world. Everyone is welcome in Soy Corredora.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In general it has been a very smooth road, because I have decided to grow it at my own pace, it has been a personal project that now has an international presence and today I face new challenges, but I always find support in partners who have the same goal as me: to inspire more women move.
My secret is to have friends and partners anywhere in the world, I have a very powerful networking network that allows me to create alliances and businesses that benefit everyone.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
In Miami Soy Corredora offers experiences such as the Soy Corredora Runs, the Soy Corredora Running Camp and the Soy Corredora Relay. We want women to be inspired by these events and connect with other women. We want them to see that it is possible to walk, jog and run and that they take the learning they have into their daily lives. And we love that our business partners join these projects.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I believe that you create luck yourself. I am someone who works a lot on my emotional health. I have coaches and mentors who constantly guide me. My mantra is: “look for the as if”, it may take longer but everything can be achieved.
