Today we’d like to introduce you to Shiwei Han.
Hi Shiwei, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am Dr. Han, the founder and medical director of Hairthetics in Hallandale Beach, Florida. My background is somewhat unique for the aesthetic field. Before focusing on hair restoration and cosmetic procedures, I trained as a surgical oncologist, performing complex operations for patients with breast cancer, liver cancer, colorectal cancer, and pancreatic cancer. In parallel with my clinical work, I was heavily involved in research and published in the fields of cancer biology, surgical oncology, and translational medicine.
I completed my surgeon-scientist training at Harvard, where my work focused on surgical innovation and the biology of healing, including how blood vessels form, how collagen and extracellular matrix remodel, and how the immune system regulates tissue repair. That experience shaped the way I approach surgery today — with a strong emphasis on precision, biology, and long-term outcomes rather than shortcuts.
Later, I continued my surgical training in plastic and aesthetic surgery in Seattle and New York, and eventually completed specialized training in hair restoration surgery in Florida. Throughout my training, I worked in the nation’s top hospitals on both the East and West Coast, gaining experience in different surgical disciplines, but also realizing that I wanted to build something more personal and more refined than the traditional hospital model.
Over time, I saw that even when serious illness was successfully treated, many patients still struggled with how they looked and how they felt about themselves. Restoring health was only part of the journey. Confidence, identity, and quality of life mattered just as much. That realization is what ultimately led me to aesthetic and hair restoration surgery.
I founded Hairthetics with the vision of creating a boutique, physician-driven practice where science, surgical precision, and aesthetics are equally important. I did not want a high-volume clinic focused on speed. My goal was to build a practice where every procedure is carefully planned, every detail matters, and every result looks natural and undetectable.
Today, my practice focuses on advanced hair restoration techniques, including completely non-shave long-hair FUE, regenerative treatments such as PRP, minimally invasive ear surgery, and facial and body aesthetic procedures. My background in surgical oncology and tissue biology allows me to approach these treatments with a deep understanding of healing, blood supply, and tissue behavior, which is essential for achieving consistent, natural results.
Starting my own clinic came with significant challenges, but it also allowed me to create the kind of practice I always believed medicine should be — highly specialized, detail-oriented, and centered entirely on the patient.
At the end of the day, my goal is not simply to change how someone looks.
My goal is to restore confidence in a way that feels natural, private, and truly personal.
That philosophy is what defines Hairthetics.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Transitioning from academic medicine and hospital-based surgery to building a private practice from the ground up was one of the most challenging decisions of my career.
For many years, my life followed a very structured path — medical school, research training, surgical residency, oncology training, and later cosmetic and hair restoration surgery. In academic medicine, there is always a clear next step. Starting my own clinic was completely different. Suddenly, I had to learn not only how to operate, but also how to run a business, manage finances, marketing, staffing, regulations, and everything that comes with entrepreneurship.
Opening Hairthetics required a significant personal investment and a lot of uncertainty. There were moments when I had to make difficult decisions without knowing if they would work, especially in the beginning when the clinic was new and still building trust in the community. South Florida is also a very competitive market for aesthetic medicine, and I knew from the start that I did not want to compete by lowering prices or doing high-volume procedures. My goal was to build a boutique, physician-driven practice focused on precision and natural results, which takes more time and patience to grow.
Another challenge was staying true to my philosophy. It is easy in this field to follow trends or shortcuts, but my background in surgery and research makes me very strict about safety, technique, evidence, and long-term outcomes. That sometimes means growing slower, but I believe it is the only way to build something that lasts.
Looking back, the difficult parts were also the most valuable. They forced me to learn skills outside of medicine, to become more resilient, and to define very clearly what kind of doctor and what kind of practice I wanted to create.
Building Hairthetics has taken time, persistence, and a lot of hard work, but it has also been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career.
As you know, we’re big fans of Hairthetics. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Hairthetics is a boutique hair restoration and cosmetic surgery practice based in Hallandale Beach, Florida. The clinic was built around a very simple idea — that aesthetic procedures should be performed with the same level of precision, planning, and scientific understanding as major surgery, while still maintaining a highly personalized and comfortable patient experience.
My background is somewhat different from many people in this field. Before starting Hairthetics, I trained as an academic surgical oncologist and surgeon-scientist, with research focused on tissue healing, blood vessel formation, and regenerative biology. Because of that, I approach hair restoration and aesthetic procedures with a strong emphasis on anatomy, designing, healing, and long-term results, not just immediate cosmetic change.
At Hairthetics, we specialize in advanced hair restoration, regenerative treatments such as PRP, minimally invasive ear surgery, and facial and body aesthetic procedures. One of the things we are particularly known for is completely non-shave long-hair FUE hair transplantation, which is one of the most technically demanding techniques in the field and performed by only a small number of surgeons worldwide. This technique allows patients to undergo hair transplant surgery with maximum discretion, without shaving the donor or recipient area, and with very natural-looking results.
What sets our practice apart is that we are intentionally not a high-volume clinic. Every procedure is planned and performed by me personally, and every treatment is customized based on the patient’s anatomy, goals, and long-term expectations. My goal has always been to build a physician-driven practice where quality, safety, and natural outcomes come before speed or volume.
Brand-wise, what I am most proud of is that Hairthetics has grown through trust and patient experience rather than aggressive advertising. Many of our patients travel from other states or even other countries because they are looking for a very specific level of detail and discretion that is not always easy to find.
What I want readers to know is that our philosophy is simple — aesthetic surgery should never look obvious. When the work is done correctly, people notice that you look better, healthier, or more confident. That is the standard we aim for with every patient.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is realizing how curious I was about science and how things work. When I was in elementary school, we had frequent power outages where I lived, and I remember trying to do my homework at night without electricity. I started thinking about how I could solve the problem myself. I had the idea that if a pen could have its own light, I could still write even in the dark. So I began experimenting by attaching a small battery and a tiny bulb to the end of a pen, trying to make a simple light that would shine exactly where I was writing. After many attempts, I was actually able to make it work, and I remember how excited I felt at that moment.
Looking back, that experience reflects something that has stayed with me my entire life. I have always enjoyed solving problems, building things, and finding better ways to do something. That same curiosity eventually led me into science, surgery, and innovation, and it still influences how I approach my work today.
