Exploring Life & Business with Shelly Nelson of All FL Title & Escrow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelly Nelson.

Hi shelly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I begin in title by chance when I ran into someone who said I should become a mobile notary, that was almost 15 years ago. I did start a mobile notary business, but that led to me “filling in” at one of my regular title companies that I served as a closer. That led to me “learning the business” slowly, and the passion and knowledge of the title industry grew from there. Eventually I became a post – closer, then a closer, and finally I decided to get my title license and began a title firm to the North a bit (Delray Area). I had a partner who didn’t know a thing about title, and so that only lasted about a year before I began my own title firm, and that was how All FL Title & Escrow was born! Before I got into title, I was a realtor for about 20 years in FL as well, so I know the pain and agony that realtors go through on the daily to get paid. Some realtors that I work with have gone as long as one year prior to getting paid for a deal. Talk about earning your money!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
So it has not be a smooth road to success for me. The title business has a lot of little nuances to learn! There is always more to learn, and even when you feel like you have a grip and a handle on it all, you still have much to learn. I struggled for years before I even felt comfortable opening a title company. I still have to hire people to help me with certain aspects of the business. I am not a numbers person!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am most proud of the fact that I help people’s dreams of owning a home come true for them. I am involved with the “fun” part (and also the not so fun parts!!!) of the closing: The actual Signing, and the key exchange. The smiles on the new owners faces is truly priceless.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
As a single mom, being there for my kids was important to me. The ability to work this business from home was ideal for me, and imperative. I am able to have flexibility, and greet my kids and also throw a load of laundry in during the day!
