Ryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I graduated college in 2009, I had no idea what I wanted to do.

I interviewed at a bunch of consulting firms and ended up taking a job at Accenture. Everyone told me how lucky I was – it was a great company that paid well and was a great place to build a career. The first day, I knew it wasn’t for me. So, I started looking at alternative methods to make income without having to sit at a desk from 9 to 5.

After countless hours of searching, I came across “SEO” (search engine optimization). I spent days and nights learning about it and started building my websites to practice. Eventually, I learned enough to start consulting with some small businesses in my local area (Miami). I ended up growing that into a successful agency, which I sold in 2019.

I own and operate three companies – Ryan Stewart Consulting, a Fractional CMO service for B2B organizations. WEBRIS is a digital agency specializing in lead-generation campaigns for law firms. The Blueprint Training is a training platform for digital agencies.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building a business is never easy, and it’s not supposed to be. If it were, everyone would have a business. The hard things in life are the ones that are most worthwhile, and I’ve grown to love the challenges each day/business presents.

I have countless stories of struggles. When I first got started (while still working at Accenture), I had a business partner. One day I woke up and he had locked me out of everything – deleted my email, all my accesses, bank account access, etc. He kicked me out of the business overnight without warning, and unfortunately, there wasn’t a whole lot that I could do about it because we didn’t have the proper paperwork in place.

I had to start over the following day – it ended up being the best thing for me because he was a bum, and his behavior supported that. Without him, I grew my business 5x faster and ended up selling it (and keeping all the profits for myself).

As you know, we’re big fans of WEBRIS. What can you tell our readers who might not be as familiar with the brand?
We specialize in lead generation campaigns for law firms. We focus on search engine marketing because Google produces the highest quality leads of any platform available.

The challenge is everyone knows that getting leads from Google is brutally competitive and expensive. We’ve developed a “blended” approach to search marketing, meaning we take advantage of both paid and organic opportunities inside Google. This produces the most leads at the best cost for our clients.

Do you have any advice for those just starting?
Just start. So many people get frozen because it’s overwhelming or they are afraid of what others will think. Just start putting one foot in front of the other, and don’t pay attention to anything or anyone else.

One year from now, you will be in a completely different place (both with your business and mentally).
