Today, we’d like to introduce you to Rocki Roland.
Hi Rocki, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I understand it can take many years to become an “overnight success story”.
I am ever so grateful to be honored as a 2024 recipient of The Outstanding Business Award” awarded to black businesses in Miramar. Today, I sit in an amazing position as the Official Yoga Teacher for the City of Miramar, FL. We offer FREE weekly classes to the community. The class is sponsored by Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam and The City of Miramar Parks & Recreation.
I am blessed with the opportunity to pour into the minds, bodies, and souls of hundreds of students weekly. I only dreamed of days like this., visualizing this moment. But there was a time, I didn’t even know I could be a Yoga teacher. Here is why… The Yogababe philosophy was born from my own journey into Yoga.
After being diagnosed with mild depression many moons ago, I began to seek the answer to healing. Holistic healing. I heard along the way that Yoga is a tool that is known to help people like me. People with anxiety, sadness, and depression. One day I literally dragged myself out of bed and made it to a local class. However, I did not have an epiphany that day.
As a matter of fact, I actually hated (or should I say: extremely “disliked”) the class. I felt like a foreigner in a foreign land. Ostracized. Alone. Not speaking or understanding the language. No one spoke to me welcomed me, Or made me feel like I belonged. I ended up slowly scooting my mat closer and closer to the door. And when I saw my opportunity to escape, I picked my mat up and ran.
Fast forward a year or so later, (Yes, it took that long), I landed myself in another class. The teacher was pleasant. She reminded me of my family. (Yes, representation does matter). My Yoga journey had truly begun. Often in class, as I would lay on the mat in Final Relaxation, uncontrollable tears would stream down my face. I learned to surrender. Not stop them. Let them flow. A deep, healing cleansing was happening. With continued practice, the clouds began to clear.
I found happiness in the simple things… a butterfly fluttering by, a big colorful rainbow after the rain, the warmth of the Sun on my skin, and the sound and visual beauty of Ocean waves. Practicing Gratitude became a daily ritual. The depression healed. I became a Yoga teacher to welcome the truth seekers, the misfits, the lost, and everyone in between.
Those seeking an answer without sometimes knowing the question. To create an environment that no matter what level you are working at, it’s okay. No matter what you look like, big or small, dark or light, my Yoga classes remind you to feel good about YOU. Learn to go within. Learn to nurture yourself. Learn to honor yourself. See your beauty from the inside out. You are a “Babe”. A Yogababe. A work in progress. Taking life… one day at a time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the early days, fearing could I really make a “career” out of being a Yoga Teacher? Leaving the security of a “corporate job” to venture into the unknown, having to forge my way. Find clients, and restructure my expenses.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Yogababe Studio is a place to heal… Mind, Body & Soul. Along with Yoga, there are additional healing methods shared with clients and students. To help clients on a cellular healing level, options such as Reiki and Pranic Healing to Soundbowl Therapy are available to clients. Physical movement options besides Yoga include Stretching Sessions for clients who need to open up tight muscles in their bodies.
Spiritually, Yogababe Studio offers Medium Readings for those who have departed loved ones and/or family members, Spiritual Readings, and Chakra Cleansings. Yogababe Studio creates Organic products for the Home and Body, which include: Reiki Candles, Manifesting Candles, Organic Body Products, and Chakra Jewelry.
I would say the deep authentic empathy I feel when I speak to my students. I look into their eyes and often read their souls. I speak to their spirit, not their ego. One of my students told me, “Coming to your class Rocki, is like going to church or a spiritual retreat. I feel so renewed and reborn afterwards.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Happiness to me is being able to be paid for what I love. I really love what I do.
When I’m teaching a class and see my students focusing on the pose, being in the moment, evolving, and growing. It makes me happy. When I’m home in the lab creating my candles and organic products, or when I’m designing my jewelry… I’m in the zone. It is a tremendous amount of chosen peace and happiness I feel.
When a butterfly flutters by me… it makes me smile. When I see a big gigantic rainbow in the sky after a South Florida rain shower passes through… it makes my heart sing. I have come to the best understanding from being a Medium. Not once as of to date, have I ever communicated with a Soul that has moved to the next dimension, has the soul ever said they miss their car.
Or they miss their bank account. It is always the simple things that our souls connect to. So I make a point to always express gratitude for the simple splendors I encounter in my world. I also may add, I love hugging trees!! LOL, they give us so much energy.
