Exploring Life & Business with Roberto of R&C Psychiatry and Integrative Medicine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roberto.

Hi Roberto, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Havana, Cuba where I went to medical school and graduated in 2002. I became a GI specialist shortly after my graduation however I could not work for long due to my political views against the Cuban government and my spiritual beliefs and values that did not align with the regimen. I was sent to Africa in 2007 to work as a physician in a remote area . While there I applied for US visa that was granted 2 years later and arrived to US in 2009. I started literally from zero learning the language, getting familiar with US culture and lifestyle . Cuban regimen blocked my access to any kind of documentation needed for me to take the exams and validate my medical license in the US despite multiple efforts and getting support from my district representative who sent several letters for me to be allowed to take exams. I did not give up and decided to go through nursing path at Florida International University where I completed my Doctorated degree in nursing practice and got double certified as Family and Psychiatric NP. I worked as family NP for 6 years and then moved to the mental health field and worked as Psychiatric nurse practitioner for 3 years. On September 2022 my former employee decided that I was not longer needed at his clinic and that es da turning point in my career because thanks to that fall I started to practice solo and learn about bussiness. Within a year I was able to get 600 patients , got couple of staff members and leaner all the insights of mange of a practice along with my clinical work. As the bussines continued to grow I hired two NPs who took care of clinical work and I focused on bussiness growth , networking and getting ways to expand. On July 1st the small suite became a large mental health clinic initially two NP and two staff members . Our model and mission prioritizes quality over quantity and has been suscessful so far for the past two year . In 2025 we achieved our first 1,000,000 in profits and we open our second location in Doral. Currently we are making arrangements in opening a third location in Palm Beach county . Our practice provide mental health care to 3500 patients we high retention rates and excellent feedback from the community

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly? No road worth taking is ever completely smooth.

There were definitely bumps along the way—things like navigating insurance and credentialing, keeping up with constantly changing regulations, and balancing quality care with the realities of running a business. Building trust with patients and the community takes time, and finding the right team members who share the same values can be challenging too. On top of that, introducing cutting-edge and integrative treatments meant extra education, investment, and patience.

That said, each struggle helped clarify the mission and made the foundation stronger. The challenges pushed growth, resilience, and a deeper commitment to doing things the right way—not just the easy way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
R&C Psychiatry is a comprehensive, family-centered mental health practice dedicated to caring for patients across the lifespan—from children and adolescents to adults and seniors. Our mission is simple but powerful: to deliver thoughtful, evidence-based psychiatric care while embracing innovation, compassion, and whole-person healing.

What we do best is blend traditional psychiatry with cutting-edge and integrative treatments. We offer thorough diagnostic evaluations, medication management, psychotherapy collaboration, and advanced treatment options for conditions such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma-related disorders, mood disorders, and more. We are especially known for our openness to innovation—using modern technology and emerging therapies when appropriate, while never losing sight of individualized, ethical care.

What truly sets R&C Psychiatry apart is our integrative, patient-first approach. We don’t believe mental health should be treated in silos. Instead, we look at the full picture—biological, psychological, social, and lifestyle factors—so treatment plans are personalized, practical, and sustainable. We take the time to listen, educate, and partner with patients and families, empowering them to be active participants in their care.

Brand-wise, we are most proud of the trust we’ve built. Patients know us as a practice that is accessible, respectful, and genuinely invested in long-term outcomes—not quick fixes. We’ve created a space where advanced care feels human, where families feel supported, and where mental health is treated with the same seriousness and dignity as physical health.

What we want readers to know is that R&C Psychiatry stands for modern mental health care with heart. Whether someone is seeking help for the first time or looking for options beyond standard treatments, our goal is to meet them where they are and help them move forward with clarity, hope, and confidence.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The next decade will bring a more connected, personalized, accessible, and innovative mental health landscape. But at its core, the heart of psychiatry will remain the therapeutic relationship—the empathy, trust, and collaboration between clinician and patient. Technology and innovation will enhance care, but human connection will continue to be irreplaceable.

If your readers want a deeper dive into any specific trend—like psychedelic therapies, digital mental health tools, or AI in psychiatry—I’d be happy to expand on that!
