Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey with Innov8tive Strategies, LLC began with my extensive experience as a federal congressional staffer, and various administrative roles in the criminal justice and education fields. This journey was inspired by the incredible work I witnessed in communities across Alabama, Georgia, and South Florida, both rural and urban. It was this firsthand experience that fueled my passion to establish a company that could make a real difference.
Despite the different sectors and states I worked in, I noticed a common challenge: organizations need to scale and grow while also lacking the necessary technical assistance, resources, and diverse funding sources to do so. This realization of a gap in the ability to get funding to organizations and communities inspired me to establish Innov8tive Strategies, LLC.
Our primary goal is to bridge the resource gap for organizations and communities seeking expansion regardless of their current stage of operations. Our services, including technical assistance with grant services, project management, and diversified fundraising and development strategies, aim to empower these organizations to achieve their goals.
We primarily work with clients in the eastern region of the country, including Washington and California. We are also expanding into technology and will integrate automated services to offer our clients more affordable and advanced options for capacity building. We are excited about this endeavor and look forward to offering these new services to our clients.
We are a thriving minority and woman-owned consulting firm. We have partnered with established grant professionals and other firms to increase our capacity and provide a diverse range of expertise for our clients. My team and I consider ourselves social entrepreneurs making a significant impact and supporting those striving to create positive change, regardless of their missions or geographical locations.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No. An entrepreneur’s journey is similar to the ups and downs of a personal life. However, I am proud to highlight how our business has demonstrated grit and determination along the way.
Challenges.
Many are not aware that the business was started just a few weeks before the global pandemic shutdown. When I founded the firm, the goal was the same: to assist organizations with capacity building and fill the funding gap between funders and organizations. I started by offering services such as nonprofit creation, needs assessments, and board and team professional development. However, it became very clear during the height of the pandemic that there was a significant and immediate need for money and resources.
The Pivot and Growth.
As a grant professional, I was familiar with writing and securing grants, and during this period, this skill was in high demand. I was able to assist numerous organizations, but eventually, I needed help handling assignments. While this is a positive challenge, it has been overwhelming at times. However, I have amassed a fantastic team and learned to leverage my network to partner with other firms for additional capacity as we scale our growth.
Our ability to navigate and thrive during challenging times, such as the pandemic, is a testament to our resilience and adaptability. We were able to adapt and change our processes and direction to ensure the ongoing growth of our business. This successful pivot has not only allowed us to address our own challenges but also to assist our clients in addressing theirs, providing them with practical strategies and solutions that have made a significant difference.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, I gained invaluable insights into resilience, adaptability, and the transformative power of challenges. As the pandemic unfolded at what was poised to be a high point for Innov8tive Strategies LLC, we faced unprecedented obstacles. Initially envisioned as a period of growth and optimism, it swiftly demanded a fundamental reassessment of our operations and strategies.
This period taught me the critical importance of pivoting and adapting to sudden changes. We had to rapidly shift our perspectives, reevaluate our service offerings, and keenly assess the evolving needs of our clients. This wasn’t just about business survival; it was about thriving in adversity and continuing to provide value to our clients despite the circumstances.
I learned that resilience is more than enduring; it’s about finding proactive ways to turn challenges into opportunities for learning and growth. For us, this meant honing in on our talents, enhancing our digital capabilities, expanding our online services, and finding new ways to support our clients remotely. The crisis underscored the importance of agility in business and the need to always be prepared to reassess and adapt our strategies to meet the needs of the moment. In essence, this taught us an important lesson that carries over into what we share with and how we assist our clients.
This experience has been a powerful reminder that the core of our business isn’t just about the services we offer but about how we respond and adapt to serve our clients better in any situation. As we continue to learn and evolve, we are deeply grateful for the trust and patience our clients have shown us during these challenging times. It has strengthened our commitment to innovation and resilience, ensuring that we are better equipped to face future challenges and continue making a significant impact.
