Today we’d like to introduce you to Noel De Christian
Hi Noel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I first ventured into the world of photography, I relied solely on film and often enlisted my sister as my willing model, who graciously “volunteered” her time to endure the heat of my studio lights. The warmth generated by those lights created a rather toasty room, making it a challenge to stay comfortable. The anticipation that accompanied the wait for the film development was exhilarating, as I eagerly looked forward to discovering whether my settings had captured a worthy image. Some results were pleasing, while others fell short, but each experience imparted valuable lessons about what worked and what didn’t. It felt like Christmas morning with every new roll of film developed, unveiling the fruits of my labor. Fast forward approximately 35 years, and my passion for photography remains as strong as ever. While my early focus may have been on capturing images of people, I now have the incredible opportunity to travel the globe photographing stunning landscapes.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think that photographers always have a smooth road. Constant changes in technology, marketing, customers desires and social media place a strong demand on flexibility and having to pivot often. Unless the photographer enjoys those frequent pivots, it may be challenging. Of course, the biggest challenge is making a living from fine-art photography but talent and perseverance is the key.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
As a former gallery owner, there’s nothing more gratifying than seeing one of my fine-art prints displayed proudly in a beautiful home or business where it can inspire and bring joy to others. Several years ago I pivoted my photography business from people to fine-art landscapes. I just needed a change and shooting landscapes has always brought me great joy so why not? I structured my business to cater to folks with homes and/or business where art makes a statement. My landscape images are usually printed large as to make a statement with bold colors and subject matter. Fine attention to detail to the image’s esthetics and composition are hallmarks of my work. My clients enjoy bringing color and impact to their spaces while also conveying a touch of elegance and drama.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have had many role models in my photography career. Some of them are no longer with us but their words of inspiration and dedication lives on. One of my earliest inspiration was a photography teacher in college who always had a kind words for his students. He was an amazing photographer but an even nicer person. I learned a lot about photography from Mr. Cerillo but more importantly, his kindness I will never forget.
