Exploring Life & Business with Minerva Salles of OMG Creative Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Minerva Salles.

Minerva Salles

Hi Minerva, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My name is Minerva Salles, I am the Founder and CEO of OMG Creative Solutions™, a digital media company that helps, guides, and supports the delivery of corporate messages by helping senior managers become more confident speakers and guiding companies to deliver their brand message through our digital media platform.

After an extensive career in the media industry interviewing many influential people, I realized that many of them, besides their success, wanted to improve their communication skills. I saw the opportunity to help an extensive community and designed a unique program suited for that purpose. Business professionals could benefit from improved communication since they are more likely to build strong relationships with colleagues, inspire and motivate their teams, and lead their organizations to success.

Our product offering is a unique communications program for tech companies, law firms, corporations, consulates, and academia to help their employees with public speaking, media training, and speaking at conferences. This program is available in person and online, and our training workshops are held in Miami or other U.S. cities to help senior managers improve their communication skills.

Through my work in corporate social responsibility, I launched Minerva’s Creative Conversations™, a vodcast that informs and engages our audience to learn about the relevant news and developments of social issues that matter to them. The vodcast addresses information about social issues such as women’s empowerment, diversity and inclusion, mental health, the environment, and climate change.

Before I graduated from college, I was hired as a multimedia specialist for the award-winning abcnews.com website, where I developed audiovisual news packages for ABC News and ABC Entertainment. While at ABC, I also worked as an independent producer and on-air contributor for ABC’s digital cable channel, ABC News Now. Moreover, I wrote, produced, and presented original programs on Amazon Prime Video about business innovation, cultural awareness, and social impact.

I am pursuing an intensive MPA program in management and innovation at Columbia University. I am proficient in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and studying French.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A significant challenge I have faced in launching my company is obtaining resources. Starting a business today is expensive, from covering the costs of marketing, social media, promotions, legal, and other expenses. Furthermore, the additional time and effort it takes to secure financing can impact your work performance, making it more challenging to focus on projects.

In addition, some biases exist in the business world. As a young and attractive female entrepreneur, you are questioned about your abilities and experience. I have worked since I was 13 and launched two businesses. Through it all, I have learned to let my accomplishments speak for themselves and to surround myself with people who appreciate and value my passion, wisdom, creativity, innovation, and strong work ethic.

Starting a business requires a lot of hard work, resilience, and perseverance, from attracting new customers and securing financing for the business. However, building a successful company is very rewarding despite these challenges, and I am confident that my dedicated efforts will contribute to positive business growth and new opportunities.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

What were you like growing up?
My journey started from the U.S. Fort Davis base in Panama to the northeast United States at a young age. I grew up in a family-friendly community in Monmouth County, New Jersey. During my upbringing, I lived in eight states and four countries, which enabled me to embrace the different cultures and backgrounds of people from all walks of life.

My early formation consisted of private schools that taught me the importance of education, discipline, and responsibility. I grew up in a large family where my parents instilled in my siblings and me that if you want to achieve great things in life, you must work hard. When my beloved older brother and I were in a pool, my stepfather said, “You can learn how to swim or drown.” Well, I learned how to swim quickly and, later in life, how to swim with the sharks! My mother was also very stern about achieving your goals. She is my top critic about what I do and will remind me to complete my tasks. I learned to finish what you start!

After high school, I enrolled at Seton Hall University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications. I was the first in my family to attend a 4-year university. I self-supported my college education by working early mornings and studying through many late nights to finish my degree. Before I graduated from college, I was hired to work at ABC News Television, a top media company in New York City and worldwide.

While in New York City, I attended many Broadway shows and loved the “Forever Tango” show, which sparked my interest in taking Argentine Tango classes. I have been dancing for a few years and look forward to continuing this beautiful art form. As they say, “You should never stop dancing!”
