Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariel Lizarzabal.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story begins when I arrived in this country fleeing from my country Venezuela, due to political problems I was being persecuted by the military and the government in which I am a lawyer and worked hard in my city to remove them from the government. I emigrated with my eight years old daughter. In Venezuela, my mom was an aesthetician and I always liked that world, when we just arrived, she cooked and sold pasta sauces to the neighbors because I have Italian descent and they are very good, hahaha. When I managed to start working, I did Uber, Amazon, delivery, etc., while I got a more stable job, I started as a receptionist in a nail spa where I ended up being the manager, at the same time I studied aesthetics here and practiced with my friends and their husbands, I lasted two years in this job, and in a few months the pandemic came and they closed it, but I didn’t leave behind my project of studying cosmetology so, I did it online. It all started with a friend, she opened a search for a space for us to work and we got a small suite, and there was our first space, it was hard at times because sometimes I didn’t have clients for several days but, little by little I have been growing and now we have BomG beauty studio that has different services and where I also have my own cabin for my clients.
As of right now, I have 32 certificates of aesthetician procedures and I am finishing three more, I am passionate about this career and I love to see the smiles of my clients, to see them leave happy, satisfied, and self-confident, I love it. My purpose is to achieve success with all my treatments and that they trust me and my performance. I love what I do, for me it is a pleasure. I also share my knowledge by teaching online or face-to-face courses, I already have a community of students, I have taught more than 100 courses so far and it is another area that I love. I love some advice videos for a news page in Venezuela twice a week and this one has 5 million followers, I have been to two TV channels to be interviewed for myself, every step is an achievement. I always have a goal to achieve that makes me feel very proud of myself. I’m also a full-time mom. I complement my work, life, etc. I take and pick my daughter up at school, I try to have lunch with her every day, and we go to a spinning class together every afternoon, we share that activity, we talk a lot and have fun together. She studies acting, she is 13 years old. I have my mother who supports me a lot and I also have a partner who supports me in all my projects and encourages me he is very confident In my ideas, he has two children, a 16-year-old and a 9-year-old, who I also consider mine. I believe that I have a lot of perseverance, and setting goals for myself every day has pushed me to get where I am today. It has been a challenge, but it has given me good gifts, such as being interviewed by a magazine in America is a dream for me, I want my story to inspire other people to believe in their dreams and that if you can if you have faith, perseverance and discipline and that you take advantage of every opportunity that will get you wherever you need to be.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been quite a challenge, for example, leaving my stable job to start a business was hard, especially because it also chose a strong moment in the world with the pandemic, sometimes I did not have clients and it was hard not having money to pay my expenses and continue studying, but I always figured it out, coming up with new ideas to attract customers to my booth, I use obstacles to push myself to improve.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I dedicate myself to beautifying and healing the skin of my clients, what do I want them to know? how dedicated I am that for me each client is special and my goal is to see them satisfied happy safe empowered, it is also important that they know that everything I do in my cabin first goes through my skin and being sure of the results is what I offer to the customer service, I do not offer false expectations I am very clear and sincere
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My best advice is to do something that you are passionate about, and not to imitate anyone, to be unique and original, we all have something that makes us special.
