Hi Maria, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Coming from a rough past, I, Maria Gabriela Baez was born in Queens, New York but shortly moved to Overtown in Miami, FL. Overtown is well known to be one of the roughest and violent neighborhoods. At a young age, I was a victim of gang violence. After such a traumatic experience, I sought out a number of ways to overcome the ordeal. Through the support of my family and close friends, I found a way to put my energy and strength into something that will later be used to help others overcome what I went through. At this point, I decided to give back to the world and began my own organic beauty product line. Today Maria Maria Beauty Hand Holding Crème is sold in various businesses including Resorts and Spas, Medspas, Salons, Clinics and Chiropractic offices throughout South Florida.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Every start-up business faces challenges. Driving all day to different locations when it’s hot or a rainy day, I didn’t stop. First, they would think I was a salesperson because I was young and would literally close their doors. I remember calling my mother and crying. She told me this is business and I shouldn’t take it personally. So I started presenting myself as a small business owner. Many started to respect me and that allowed me to get my foot in the door.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Maria Maria Beauty is a line of beauty products that were created to make a difference in women’s lives. It stands for triumph over adversity, health and wellness, and living life to the fullest. Maria Maria Beauty was originally developed to help heal the wounds of accident and burn victims. What sets me apart from others is that I developed, marketed and distributed my product on my own. I want readers to know that for every purchase of Maria Maria Beauty products, a portion of the proceeds will go to victims of gang-related violence.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
