

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Crawford.
Hi Lisa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been in sales and marketing for 37 years. Both my parents were and clearly I got their knack for it. 28 years ago my fiancé and I started a local, free, directly mailed, full color magazine in the town we lived in at the time, Huntington, New York. We had one computer in our basement and a kid out of graphic design school help us put this magazine together. It took off and became very popular. Ten years later I decided to leave that relationship and the business. I took over management and marketing of several local businesses, but advertising and publishing was still a passion. When I moved to Port St .Lucie, Florida 8 years ago I answered an ad on Indeed for assistant to the publisher of a local magazine, got the job and was quickly promoted to Director of Sales because of my experience. I enjoyed learning about where I moved to for the next 3 years, since I had no idea where I was basically (moved to Florida to care for my parents that were in Jupiter at that time). Then I decided to inquire about the other publications in my area. The St. Lucie Voice Newspaper hit the mark for what I was looking for- a hyperlocal publication that was free, directly mailed and combined a digital version for advertisers. The talented editorial staff we have that creates this amazing publication makes me proud to be a part of it. I am the only Marketing & Advertising Consultant for the publication. I truly love Port St. Lucie and the surrounding area. I am very active in many civic, business and nonprofit organizations in my city. I have become the Voice of St. Lucie and am loving every minute of it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing is every really smooth, is it? When I left my fiance years ago I was more sad that I had to leave the business that we created. I was so proud and loved what I was doing so much. To now be back at what I love to do brings me peace.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The St. Lucie Voice is Port St. Lucie’s free local news publication. We publish every other Thursday. We combine a direct targeted mailing via USPS to the more prime. affluent in our City, along with free pick up throughout our City and the surrounding cities. Also posted to read on 70 local group Facebook pages, LinkedIn, Alignable, NextDoor, Instagram and our website. There is no other publication with this formula.
I am the Senior Marketing Consultant….the only adverting executive. I am know for being the Voice of St. Lucie. What sets me apart is my extensive experience in ad design and marketing plus great customer service. I truly care. Brand wise the most proud I am is that in 4 years I have more than doubled the publication and more than tripled the revenue. Let me be your Voice!
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Customer service is key in any field. Building my own personal brand of myself includes this. Clients followed me from one publication to the other because of my customer service. The little things, attention to details and being highly professional will bring you success.
