Hi Liliana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m Liliana, founder of Wiz Cleaners, a residential and commercial cleaning company serving Miami, Coral Gables, and the surrounding communities.
I started Wiz Cleaners in 2019, right after finishing my degree in business. Cleaning was always something family and friends praised me for, since I’ve always had an eye for detail. As I thought about which industry to go into, cleaning resonated with me. I understood how much it shapes people’s daily lives, and I kept hearing the same frustration from everyone around me: how hard it was to find a cleaning company you could count on and trust, one that wouldn’t send random people into your space.
That frustration is what motivated me to create something different. I had a clear belief: a clean space shouldn’t be a gamble. So from day one I ran it with the structure and systems most cleaning companies skip: rigorous professional training, accountability, and consistency.
For me, this work has always been about more than appearances. When you walk into a space that’s truly clean, your mind settles. There’s less clutter, less stress, and more room to breathe. Many clients tell us that cleaning day is their favorite day, one of the few moments of peace in a packed week, and our commercial clients say the same about starting the morning in a fresh, well kept office that helps their team be more productive. That’s the part that means the most to me. We’re not just wiping counters, we’re giving people back their time and a calmer, healthier home for their family and pets, or a workplace where their team can focus.
One of the first and most important decisions I made was to hire our cleaners as W-2 employees, not subcontractors. That one choice shaped everything. It lets me train every technician to the same standard, vet and stand behind our team, and guarantee consistent service from the same trusted professionals at every visit, not a rotating cast of strangers in their space. We’re also a fully insured company, so if a technician is ever hurt on the job or something is accidentally damaged, we take full responsibility and our clients are never caught in the middle. What began as a small operation has grown into a fully staffed team serving homes and businesses across Brickell, Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, Pinecrest, and Kendall.
Today, I’m proud of the reputation we’ve earned: 130+ five-star Google reviews, a community of loyal clients, and a partnership with Cleaning for a Reason, where we provide free cleaning to people going through cancer treatment. At the heart of it all is a simple mission: a stress-free experience our clients can depend on and never have to think about. It comes from a genuine care for people, for our clients, for our team, and for our community, and that’s what drives everything we do. Getting here wasn’t quick or easy, but I wouldn’t do it any other way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Building a cleaning company the right way, the ethical way, is much harder than building one that cuts corners.
The biggest challenge has been the people side. Because I decided early on to hire our cleaners as W-2 employees instead of subcontractors, I took on far more responsibility than most companies in our industry: payroll, training, insurance, and the day to day of leading a team. The contractor model many competitors use is cheaper and simpler, but it can’t deliver the consistency our clients count on. Choosing the harder path meant I had to learn how to hire well, train thoroughly, and hold a high standard, and that took time and plenty of lessons along the way.
Consistency itself was another struggle. Clients expect the same quality every single visit, and the only way to deliver that is through systems. So I built ours from the ground up: documented cleaning processes, technician onboarding, ongoing training, quality checks, and clear expectations for the whole team. None of that existed when I started. I created it piece by piece while running every other part of the business, from operations and HR to marketing and customer service.
Starting in 2019 also meant facing the pandemic almost right out of the gate, which forced me to adapt quickly and lead through a lot of uncertainty. Looking back, the hard parts are exactly what built the reputation we have today. Every challenge pushed me to create better systems, train a stronger team, and become a better leader. Those years are the reason Wiz Cleaners is trusted and consistent now.
