Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenlie Reed.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
This is a loaded question lol, I’ve been teaching Pilates since before it was cool and before there was a studio on every corner, and I’ve been working with professional athletes for over a decade. I teach true Pilates, nothing gimmicky or trendy. Over the years I’ve developed a method that is very position specific. Meaning I teach to the body in front of me and the position they play. So while I teach true Pilates the entire session, I may modify the traditional exercises to make them more position specific. For example, an Offensive Lineman and a Wide receiver have completely different bodies and those bodies are asked to do completely different things- I approach their sessions as such.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh lord no! While the athletes themselves immediately were addicted to Pilates- their ‘teams’ were not. It took me years of begging for a seat at the table in regards to being part of the guys wellness teams. Their position coaches, strength coaches and physical therapist definitely took a lot longer to convince that what I bring to the table is something of value. But now- I work hand in and hand with them! That’s a huge part of my success, I work WITH the guys teams and we get them where they want to be.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Recently I have opened Lifestyle Movement. We are a women owned performance facility in Miami, Florida. We offer Pilates, physical therapy, strength and performance coaching. I have worked hand in hand with these ladies for years- we finally decided to pull the trigger and bring all of our practices to one space. Making working with and for our clients extremely cohesive and synergistic. I like to think of Lifestyle Movement as a movement ecosystem. Its definitely not just a gym.
How do you think about happiness?
Seeing my work translate into real life! Watching one of my guys tight rope walk a sideline and stay in bounds after working balance and ankle stability all offseason, seeing my pitcher make it all season w no back pain. These things I love!
