Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Gutierrez.
Hi Karina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Miami, and from a pretty young age I was always drawn to personal development and understanding people on a deeper level. My journey started with yoga and embodiment practices. I was really fascinated by the connection between the mind, body, and spirit. That curiosity eventually led me to travel to India, where I studied Eastern healing practices and immersed myself in a more spiritual and somatic approach to wellbeing.
Academically, I took a more traditional route alongside that exploration. I earned two master’s degrees in counseling from the University of Pennsylvania and started my private practice at 21, which gave me early experience working directly with people navigating relationships, identity, and emotional healing.
Over time, I began to notice that many of the struggles people were facing were connected to intimacy, sex, and how disconnected we often are from our own bodies. That realization led me deeper into the world of Tantra, somatic work, and sex therapy. I started integrating Western psychology with Eastern philosophies like Tantra and Conscious Kink practices, which focus on energy, presence, and deeper connection.
Today, my work really sits at the intersection of psychology, sexuality, and embodiment. I help people explore intimacy, relationships, and personal expression in a way that’s both psychologically grounded and deeply human.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. In many ways, the work I do today came directly out of my own struggles. For a long time, I felt really disconnected from my sexuality. Even when I was in relationships, sex often felt performative, like I was playing a role rather than actually feeling present in my body. I had this deep sense that there was something much more meaningful and alive that people were experiencing in intimacy, but I wasn’t accessing it myself.
There was also a lot of shame tied up in that disconnection. I spent years feeling like something was wrong with me, and I found myself in relationships where intimacy was either absent or very surface-level. What I eventually realized is that this wasn’t just about sex… it was affecting how I showed up in every area of my life. I struggled to express what I truly wanted, whether that was in the bedroom, in relationships, or even in my career.
That lack of clarity and self-trust led to periods where I felt disconnected from my purpose and unsure about the direction of my life. But in hindsight, those struggles were also what pushed me to start searching for deeper answers.
Ultimately, my healing journey wasn’t just about becoming more sexually expressed. It was about learning how to reconnect with myself, trust my desires, and show up in the world with a much stronger sense of authenticity.
As you know, we’re big fans of Karina Gutierrez, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My work sits at the intersection of psychology, sexuality, and embodiment. I specialize in helping people reconnect with their bodies, their desires, and their authentic expression. A lot of people are successful on the outside but feel disconnected on the inside, especially when it comes to intimacy, pleasure, and emotional vulnerability. My work helps bridge that gap.
My background is unique because it blends multiple worlds that are rarely integrated. I’m trained in traditional psychotherapy and counseling, but I’ve also studied Tantra, Taoist sexual practices, somatic healing, and conscious kink. What I’ve found is that real transformation doesn’t happen purely through talking about our problems, it happens when we involve the body, our emotions, and our relationship to pleasure. This is why I believe most talk therapy models are flawed and leave people in an endless hamster wheel.
Many people know me for the way I approach sexuality as a pathway for personal growth and self-discovery rather than something purely physical or taboo. I often speak about how intimacy dynamics like trust, surrender, power, and vulnerability mirror the way we show up in the rest of our lives. Essentially, our sex lives are a microcosm for our lives!
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of creating a space where conversations about sexuality can be both intelligent and deeply human/normalized. There’ a lot of misinformation around topics like sex, Tantra, or power dynamics. My work focuses on bringing psychological depth, safety, and nuance into those conversations so they’re accessible and practical.
Ultimately, what I want readers to know is that sexuality is not separate from the rest of our lives. Our relationship to desire, intimacy, and self-expression often reflects our relationship to power, purpose, and authenticity. The work I do helps people reconnect with those parts of themselves so they can live authentically and relate more fully.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is witnessing people fully expressed in the whole human experience… our wounds, our traumas, our patterns, and our joy. There’s something incredibly powerful about watching someone stop hiding parts of themselves and start allowing their full truth to exist in the room.
I feel this is going to become even more important in the future. As technology and AI continue to automate more aspects of life, the things that will become increasingly valuable are the deeply human qualities: presence, embodiment, emotional depth, and authentic expression. Those are things machines simply can’t replicate.
That’s part of why I feel so grateful to do the work that I do! Supporting people in reconnecting to their authentic expression feels like participating in something very meaningful. Especially in a world that often encourages the opposite.
