Exploring Life & Business with Kacia Doris of Coral Springs Counseling Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kacia Doris.

Hi Kacia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always known I wanted to be in a helping profession. Being raised by a psychotherapist mother, I found myself naturally gravitating toward people in need of emotional support. I was always the one taking the tearful friend by the hand saying, “What’s wrong? Let’s talk about it.”

We all have our self proclaimed, “superpowers” – Florists can create a magical bouquet from seemingly, mismatched flowers- Teachers can help a child who is struggling academically, to learn their true potential- As a therapist, mine is leaning into emotions that sometimes others lean away from. When I am around someone who is suffering, it activates my highest potential for support. In the therapeutic environment with a client, I lean into the deep dive, welcoming any and all emotions that come up (yes, the waterworks are welcomed!) guiding them to discover the root of what they are holding on their heart.

Being invited into someone’s vulnerable, real, inner world is an honor that I don’t take lightly; it is truly an honor to witness that raw, genuine vulnerability – to support a client through deeply understanding not only the highs of their life but the lows and the plateaus- supporting them on their journey toward what they feel to be their “best self” and healing is so rewarding.
My journey as a psychotherapist got its official footing at The Florida State University, in the College of Social Work. I graduated with my Bachelor of Social Work Degree in December 2011 and my Master of Social Work Degree in December 2012. Today, I enjoy being part of a successful Group Practice that strongly aligns with my personal and professional values: Coral Springs Counseling Center- along with Owner: Susan Block, LMFT and other highly skilled specialists. We provide marriage and individual counseling services in person & virtually.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
After graduating, I began my career in Community Mental Health, providing in-home therapy to individuals and families across Martin, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie Counties. Like many new clinicians, I entered the field eager to make a meaningful impact. While this job came with its challenges, I remained committed to delivering a high standard of care to every client I served.

Over time, I gained valuable insight into complexities of this mental health system and truly how important maintaining integrity in my work, even under pressure, meant to me. As demands increased and caseloads grew, I recognized my need to realign my professional path with my values and long-term goals. This realization marked a pivotal moment in my journey, helping me better understand what kind of clinician, and person, I aspire to be.

I ended up going the route of Private Practice, which I have really enjoyed. The independence & ability to have control over the quality of services I provide, the amount of clients I support and the value of my time has been huge. While I sat comfortably in my solo-practice, I yearned for the ability to grow beyond it, but did not know the possibilities or when or how. Out of the blue, a good friend, Cassandra Thompson, LMHC, told me that there was an opening at Coral Springs Counseling Center, and I would be a great fit. Everything about this place was exactly what I had been searching for. After interviewing with the owner, Susan Block, LMFT I could not have possibly been more enthusiastic about her offer to join the team.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Coral Springs Counseling Center?
