Justin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There’s never a smooth road, God shows you the vision of what it is that you’re called to do. We all have a vision. We all have a dream but he never shows us the path because if he showed us the path we’d be like. Oh no! I don’t actually want to go and do the dream so I don’t think anybody ever has a smooth road and the fact that we don’t have a smooth road is a good thing because smooth roads or smooth seas don’t make skilled sailors and we have to go through difficult times. We have to go through hardships in order for them to shape us to build resiliency to build greatness to pull out the excellence that lives inside of us so that we can execute at the level necessary in order to be successful and to realize the potential that’s inside of us.
The struggles along the way have been in a multitude of areas number one is imposter syndrome. I felt many times that I wasn’t a skilled enough entrepreneur that I wasn’t. I wasn’t organized enough. A lot of the things that I was born with like ADHD and dyslexia and OCD are all labels that people place on you that always tell you that oh maybe I am not good enough. Maybe I can’t do this and so having to overcome a lot of those obstacles was difficult. There’s been times in the season of the business where there’s been a lot of cash flow issues trying to as you’re trying to grow a business and there’s the there’s the balance of cash flow. What does it look like and those were? Those were really hard at times and you had to get gritty. I remember early on in the business there were some cash flow issues and I literally printed off 200 flyers and I got my rollerblades on and went through flyers in people’s mailboxes and ended up bringing in close to $150,000 in business just from those flyers and that one decision and I kept us going and allowed us to continue to keep moving.
So those are some of the struggles that I think come professionally. Personally being in a marriage with your spouse who is also your business partner. There are a lot of complexities that come in there with how you manage your time. How do you prioritize the relationship? How does the relationship say front center? How does? How do you not get lost in the day-to-day and so we’ve had to be very systemized and structured and disciplined in how we make sure we prioritize one another making sure we have a yearly getaway that is completely dark. We completely leave the business to focus on one another. We have quarterly touch bases where we go away for a day and a half and just focus on one another. We have weekly date nights. We have connection points throughout the day we start each prayer with one another at 9:00 a.m. so these things make sure that we can keep the relationship.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
OWN IT is a health coaching company that aims to reclaim the health of the world by empowering high performers to take ownership of their health so they can thrive in all areas of life. We serve our clients with luxury, convenience, safety, transformation, and longevity in mind.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Been a lot of books that I’ve just loved that have kind of helped me.
Dan Martell’s book Buy Back Your Time was just really powerful for me to be able to see and understand how I can operate in a more efficient and effective way.
Another book was The Power to Change by Craig Rochelle. An amazing book on leadership and what that was all about and then another one was “Undistracted” by Bob Goff. Another really good one.
And then John Maxwell the 16 Undeniable Laws of Communication. The big thing about books is that I read a lot of books on how to communicate better, how to lead better, and the reason is that communication and leadership are what your business is built on and so you have to make sure that you have those to be able to really function at a high level.
From a podcast standpoint a show that has always been a big one for me is the Ed Mylett show and then, to be honest, I just listen to a lot of sermons because I feel like when you are biblically and scripturally aligned you can start to take whatever words are said, and bring it into whatever it is that you’re going through in your life.
