Today we’d like to introduce you to Judy Weaver.
Hi Judy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Growing up in southern California during the 60s, I was immersed in the “peace, love, and finding yourself” movement that was sweeping the nation. Even then, I was drawn to the idea of understanding oneself better, feeling like there was something profound behind it all.
It wasn’t until my early 30s that I stumbled upon a daily yoga practice, and it was like a light switch had been flicked on inside me. The impact it had on my daily life was immediate and transformative, though I didn’t quite realize it at the time. Suddenly, my path took a different turn, guided by the principles and practices of yoga.
Yoga therapy became my compass, a holistic methodology that touches upon the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our being, ultimately regulating the nervous system. Through years of dedicated study as both a Yoga Teacher and a Yoga Therapist, coupled with decades of personal practice, I’ve amassed a toolbox brimming with techniques to aid others on their journey to inner peace and freedom within their body and mind.
In 2010, I took a leap and founded Connected Warriors, driven by a deep-seated vision to create programs tailored specifically to the needs of Active Duty Servicemembers, Veterans, First Responders, and their families. In 2020 another leap of faith and Yoga Unify was formed as an alternative pathway to uplevel the yoga teacher profession.
The impact of our work didn’t go unnoticed, earning recognition such as being named a Yoga Journal 2021 Game Changer, a testament to our significant influence in the yoga community. My journey has led me to become a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT500), and a Certified Empowerment Mindset Life Coach.
With each certification, I’ve deepened my understanding of how yoga can be used as a tool for healing and resilience-building, guiding individuals through life’s challenges with grace and strength. Through my written works, I aim to share insights into yoga therapy, empowerment, and mindset coaching, offering readers a deeper understanding of trauma-conscious yoga protocols and strategies for personal growth.
My collaboration with the esteemed Chopra Center reflects my dedication to holistic well-being and my belief in the power of collaboration with industry leaders in wellness. Together, we strive to enrich lives and communities across the globe through international workshops, retreats, and teacher training programs.
At the age of 64, I’m embarking on a new chapter in my journey by returning to school to study and become a Health and Wellness Coach, aiming to become a nationally board-certified healthcare professional. Despite my age, I’ve never been one to conform to the norm. Instead, I continuously explore the fascinating interplay between the body and mind, pushing the boundaries of body-mind communication, function, and our relationship to gravity.
In my South Florida home, surrounded by the serene beauty of nature, I find both inspiration and tranquility. It is here, with my husband and beloved Maine Coon cat, Loki, that I continue to pursue my mission of guiding others toward healing and personal growth. It seems like I just started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The greatest challenge will be time management balancing an existing private yoga therapy practice, teaching, and personal and professional development along with family and friends will be difficult and prioritization will be key.
Another consideration will be technological proficiency, I stay somewhat relevant and never shy away from learning new skills, however, there may be a learning curve. The last challenge will be to maintain physical, emotional, and mental health while adding another stressor.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In March, I took a leap of faith and opened my own yoga therapy studio—a rollercoaster of scary and wonderful experiences. As I reflect on the journey, I can’t help but feel excited about the year ahead, poised to transition into an allied health professional role and witness the impact it will have on my practice.
As both a professional and a student, I’m eagerly anticipating the opportunity to expand my work into clinical and academic settings. My goal is to delve deeper into the intricate connection between physical structure and neurological conditions, driven by an insatiable curiosity to unravel the mysteries of the human body and mind.
In parallel, I’m fully immersed in creative endeavors, including crafting a new book and leading an annual women’s yoga adventures retreat. This retreat isn’t just about yoga; it’s a transformative journey focused on self-empowerment and unlocking individual superpowers. Through this unique blend of adventure and introspection, my aim is to inspire others to tap into their inner strength and potential.
As I embark on this multifaceted journey, I embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, fueled by a lifelong commitment to growth, exploration, and empowerment. My dedication to lifelong learning is evident in my roles as an IAYT Provider APD Continuing Education and a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP), where I’m not only dedicated to my personal growth but also to nurturing the growth of others within the yoga community.
Ethical advocacy is at the heart of my work, reflected in my involvement in the International Association of Yoga Therapists’ Ethics Working Group. I believe in creating safe and supportive environments for individuals on their healing journeys and implementing trauma-conscious yoga protocols that truly make a difference.
