Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan Gomez.
Hi Juan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my career in the U.S. Army in 1999, enlisting as a Combat Medic before earning my commission through the Green-to-Gold Program at Florida International University Army ROTC Program. My military journey took me from the 82nd Airborne Division to serving as an intelligence officer in multiple units, including CENTCOM and Special Operations Command South—experiences that shaped my discipline, leadership style, and ability to operate under pressure.
After years of service, I carried those values into the private sector. I started working in the commercial property management and quickly recognized the need for reliable, high-quality building services delivered with integrity. That insight led me to grow Building Experts, a commercial maintenance and facility services firm, in conjunction with our sister company Wellington Construction Group, which specializes in commercial interior buildouts. Both companies have scaled significantly, now serving clients across South Florida and expanding into Central Florida.
As a veteran entrepreneur, my mission has always been to build organizations rooted in resilience, accountability, and service, principles I learned in uniform. Today, I continue to lead and grow multiple ventures, mentor young professionals, and stay deeply engaged in community service as Commander of American Legion Post 98, Board Member at FIU College of Business and Vet-Baseball. Every step of my journey, both military and business, has been about creating opportunities, serving others, and building teams that take pride in excellence.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth, but the challenges have shaped who I am as an entrepreneur and leader. Transitioning from the military to the private sector was one of the first major hurdles. In uniform, the mission, structure, and chain of command are clear. In business, you have to build all of that from scratch! Every aspect like systems, teams, culture, and accountability. Learning to translate military discipline into business operations took time and humility.
Growing my companies came with its own set of obstacles. There were financial risks, long stretches of uncertainty, and moments where I had to rebuild teams, processes, or entire divisions. The commercial real estate market in South Florida is fast-paced and competitive, and we had to earn trust client by client, project by project. Expanding into new regions like Central Florida required reinvesting, retraining, and constantly recalibrating strategy.
On a personal level, balancing service to my country, my businesses, community commitments, and family has required constant adjustment. Leading American Legion Post 98 while running growing companies tested my bandwidth at times, but it also reinforced the importance of purpose-driven leadership.
Despite the obstacles, every setback became an opportunity to innovate, refine our systems, and strengthen our organization. The struggle is part of the story; however, and it’s what makes the success meaningful.
As you know, we’re big fans of Building Experts. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I lead two companies that serve the commercial real estate and construction industries in South and Central Florida: Building Experts, our commercial maintenance and facility services firm, and Wellington Construction Group, which specializes in commercial interior buildouts. Together, these organizations allow us to support Class-A office buildings, mixed-use properties, and corporate clients with a full spectrum of services from day-to-day building maintenance and repairs to full turnkey construction projects.
What we are known for is reliability, transparency, and a mission-driven approach to service. Many companies talk about quality, our teams live it. We operate with the same discipline, accountability, and attention to detail that I learned throughout my military career. Clients trust us because we do what we say we will do, we communicate clearly, and we take ownership from start to finish.
We specialize in:
• Commercial maintenance & repair services for office, industrial, and retail properties
• Class-A tenant improvement buildouts
• Facility operations support
• Emergency response, inspections, and project coordination
• High-touch customer service delivered by trained service managers and field teams
What truly sets us apart is our systems-based approach, our leadership culture, and the pride my team takes in treating every property like it’s their own. We are not just contractors, we are partners to our clients, often becoming an extension of their in-house teams.
Brand-wise, I am most proud of the trust we’ve built. In this industry, reputation is everything. We’ve earned a seat at the table with major property management firms, and our expansion into Central Florida shows that our model works: disciplined operations, strong communication, and a genuine commitment to service.
What I want readers to know is this: Building Experts and Wellington Construction Group exist to make our clients’ jobs easier. When you work with us, you’re not just hiring a vendor, you are gaining a reliable, mission-oriented team dedicated to delivering excellence every day.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality that has driven my success more than anything is discipline anchored by a service-first mindset. The military taught me that discipline isn’t just about structure, it’s about consistency, reliability, and doing the right thing even when no one is watching. In business, that translates to showing up every day with intention, staying focused on the mission, and holding myself and my team to high standards.
Equally important is a commitment to servant leadership. Whether I’m leading Soldiers (as a Reserve Officer), employees, or volunteers at American Legion Post 98, my focus is always on empowering others, removing obstacles, and helping people perform at their best. When you prioritize people and purpose, the results follow.
That combination, discipline, service, and a willingness to take ownership has allowed me to build trust with clients, grow strong teams, and scale multiple businesses. It’s the foundation of everything I do.
