Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Stouffer.
Hi Hannah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Being a creative never really felt like a choice, it was all I ever wanted to do ever since I was very small. I was always drawing, getting in trouble in school for drawing, attending additional art classes, and being put in excellent art classes. Coming from a creative household I was encouraged to pursue this desire/talent, and for that, I’m super fortunate.
I think I was taught very early on that I COULD entertain a creative profession as an option, I think that part is really special. My father was an independent filmmaker that pursued his vision of creating wildlife films, a desire he had also had since he was very young. I think that if you want something bad enough you figure out a way to make it work, and I felt like it was the only option.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Committing to an unpredictable, unstable lifestyle and stream of revenue is always a challenge. I’ve been broke and balling my entire creative career (which is the only career) but the trade-off has also been more than worth it.
It’s a constant rollercoaster of expenses, or not being able to afford those expenses. Giving up the comfort of a consistent paycheck for freedom is the absolute tradeoff though. Once I realized that I could do it, there was no way out. Now, I know way too much, I’ve seen the other side for so long that it’s all I know, no bosses, no gods no masters.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
After having been a full-time artist and illustrator for the majority of my life, I was always seeking a sense of community, of something bigger than myself, of building and supporting other creatives and seeing what we could do together.
I started this in 2015 by initiating a loose studio by the name of H+ Creative. In 2015, the goal of starting this brand was to launch a showstopping exhibition in Miami during Art Basel, which we did. We curated artists from across the globe in all mediums to showcase physical artworks at an exhibition during the main event week. We secured a location sponsor, we flew, shipped, installed, and celebrated this initial launch, and it was a success.
Almost 10 years later, H+ has formed an artist studio and representation firm, supporting artists from across the globe. H+ Creative is an artist representation firm and visual services studio, focused on the future of creative media through vibrantly executed imagery. We are proud to be a woman-owned and operated boutique creative studio that represents a tight-knit roster of top-tier, diverse international artists.
We work directly with clients and collaborators, specializing in everything from digital to traditional illustration, 3D, motion, and animation to visuals and experiential installation. We handle creative both in-house and through our extensive team of creatives who we truly consider to be the best of the best.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
If you want it, keep pushing. If you don’t want it, find something that you feel drawn to pour yourself into.
There should be a difficult phase, it should feel uncomfortable until it doesn’t, but it may still be difficult. Put in the hours, put out the work, share it, talk about it, be about it.
