Exploring Life & Business with Gaelle Laroche (Co-Founder) of BY TERRAZUL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gaelle Laroche (Co-Founder).

Hi Gaelle Laroche (Co-Founder), please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Terrazul was born from a shared love of travel, culture, and the quiet beauty found in objects shaped by hand and history.
I am Haitian-Belgian, and Zayna is Moroccan. Our backgrounds naturally shaped a way of seeing the world where beauty, culture, and a deep respect for handmade work are deeply intertwined.

We have always been drawn to places where tradition remains part of everyday life, where objects carry memory, texture, and meaning. Morocco became our starting point, a place where these traditions are not separate from life, but part of its rhythm.

What began as a personal search for pieces we loved (ceramics, materials, objects with soul) slowly became something we wanted to share, almost as a response to a world that feels a little too uniform, a little too beige in every sense.

Based between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Terrazul is rooted locally while shaped by a broader, global perspective.

We work directly with small family ateliers and artisans, building close relationships and curating pieces that reflect both ancestral knowledge and a more modern way of living.

At the same time, Terrazul is evolving into a sourcing maison, developing collaborations with interior designers, boutique hotels, and concept spaces to create unique objects in noble materials.

Today, we approach Terrazul as a curated house, working across objects, materials, and spaces, with a growing focus on projects that value intention, materiality, and aesthetic depth, offering an alternative to mass-produced design and creating environments that feel layered, soulful, and deeply considered, more human, more vibrant, and inherently grounding.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, although it started in a very organic way.

Terrazul began almost as a Christmas project, simply wanting to share with family and friends the pieces we discovered during a trip to Morocco. What started as a personal gesture quickly grew into something much more meaningful, evolving from a simple Instagram page into a project we felt deeply connected to.

One of the main challenges has been building something from the ground up while balancing family life, travel, and all the moving parts that come with a small, independent business. We have naturally taken on many roles at once, from sourcing and product development to logistics, quality control, marketing, and building relationships.

At times, this meant that while we were focused on developing the brand, traveling, and connecting with the right partners, other aspects like our online presence or website did not always evolve at the same pace.

Understanding the South Florida market has also been a process. It is a very eclectic environment, and finding where Terrazul naturally fits required time, observation, and refinement.

Another important shift was realizing that while we initially approached Terrazul as an online retail concept, what we were truly drawn to was something more hands-on and creative, working closely with designers, artisans, developing pieces, and contributing to spaces with more depth, character, and cultural resonance.

Today, we are learning to build Terrazul more intentionally, allowing it to grow at a pace that feels aligned with both the vision and the way we want to live and work.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We work directly with artisans and small ateliers, primarily in Morocco, to source and develop pieces that are both rooted in tradition and relevant to a more contemporary way of living. Our focus is on ceramics and objects in noble materials, chosen for their texture, character, and the story they carry.

We collaborate with designers, boutique hotels, and concept spaces to source and develop collections that bring a more intentional and distinctive aesthetic to each project.

What defines Terrazul is a clear point of view. We are not driven by volume or trends, but by the desire to reintroduce natural materials, a sense of uniqueness, and human presence into the spaces we collaborate on.

Interiors today often feel quiet in their expression. We focus on bringing pieces into spaces that add presence, character, and a clear sense of identity and depth. We work with those who value that same sensibility and understand the presence a well-made piece brings into a space.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the most important lessons has been learning to let go of control.

When working with handmade processes, not everything follows a strict timeline or perfect consistency. It requires patience, trust, and a certain respect for the rhythm of making.

Over time, we understood that this is part of the value itself. Terrazul is not built on speed, but on intention, relationships, and a more natural pace.

That perspective now shapes the way we grow, more slowly, but with greater coherence and meaning.
