Exploring Life & Business with Franco Arias of Kyrios Soter Scientific

Today we’d like to introduce you to Franco Arias.

Hi Franco, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Kyrios Soter Scientific began as a dream in our living room on January 15, 2007. With a newborn baby, two young daughters, and a shared vision for a better future, my husband Franco and I started our business with passion, perseverance, and faith. Franco, an Industrial Engineer from Florida International University in Miami, and I, a Civil Industrial Engineer specialized in Computer Science, believed that we could create something meaningful—not just for us, but for the world.
In those early days, we balanced raising our children with taking customer calls, changing diapers, and handling international shipments—some of which mistakenly arrived at our home instead of the warehouse. We started with three clients, but quickly learned the value of trust. Today, one of those original clients from Honduras is still with us and even attended our company’s opening celebration.
Back in 2007, remote work and digital communication were rare—especially in the Caribbean, where websites and email were just beginning to take hold. But we saw the potential. We embraced online tools, started a blog (which we still maintain), and traveled to personally meet clients from across Latin America and the Caribbean. Our approach was simple: connect with people, build trust, and offer outstanding service.
Just two years after launching, a breakthrough sale enabled us to move from our humble home office to a dedicated warehouse and office space. Today, Kyrios Soter serves a growing international customer base, including companies in Israel, Ghana, Canada, Taiwan, Japan and Australia in addition to our regular Latin America and Caribbean clients.
As our small business expanded, so did our family’s involvement. Our eldest daughter is now our full-time accountant, our second daughter holds a degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management, and our youngest son —he was just a baby when we started— is starting university, in Biomedical Engineering. All three children have contributed to Kyrios Soter from an early age, gaining valuable experience in small business operations, leadership, customer service, and technology.
At its heart, Kyrios Soter Scientific is a family business built on strong values: honesty, kindness, service, and respect—for our clients, our team, and the environment. We reduce, reuse, and recycle wherever possible, and we support organizations that share our commitment to making a positive impact in the community.
Today, our next generation brings fresh ideas, modern tools, and a passion for innovation that drives us forward. Through social media, new technologies, and a dedication to excellence, they’re helping us carry on the legacy we started—one that puts people first.
Kyrios Soter Scientific was created to serve others. We are here to solve problems, build lasting relationships, and continue growing—together.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of the big struggles we have faced are the struggles that every entrepreneur faces when starting up a business. These include: time management, getting used to the idea of fluctuating income, and managing personnel. Through the years we have learned our lessons and have kept it real. Furthermore, we have learned to deal with challenges outside of our control and we have taken note of the first mistakes. For sure that has paid off.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
After 3 years of research experience in Miami Heart Institute and over 20 years of sales, Kyrios Soter Scientific has been serving our customers with all their laboratory, medical, and scientific needs (equipment and supplies). We sell locally in South Florida and the rest of the USA as well as the Caribbean and Latin America regions. We also have equipment rentals for anyone wanting to try out equipment, needing a quick result, or just starting a business. We sell used and refurbished equipment, sell parts, and offer maintenance/repairs for centrifuges, microscopes, and pipettes.
As a family business, we value relationships and professional services. We thank God for the flexibility this allows us in finding solutions in a timely matter, no matter the circumstance.
Whether you are an end user, small laboratory, or a large hospital provider, we are excited to work with you to provide quality products at a good price.
Now, we are a certified Minority Business provider of the State of Florida, certified as a Small, Women, and Hispanic American Business. Also certified as providers to Miami-Dade County Schools, FIU and UM Approved Vendor.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Growing up in my home country of Chile, I truly enjoyed walking through the woods and mountains. I can still feel the fresh air surrounding me and the sounds of the birds while walking. It’s the simple moments of my childhood that I truly treasure.
