Today we’d like to introduce you to Fiona Liang
Hi Fiona, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a first-generation Chinese American woman growing up in the bold, multicultural environment of New York City, I found myself often navigating the complexities of dual cultural identities. I was constantly balancing two worlds—feeling like I existed in the ‘in-between.’ Art became my refuge, a place where I could freely explore who I was beyond societal expectations and find self-understanding and healing.
My journey with art led me to realize its profound therapeutic potential, not just for myself but for others as well. Last year, I had the opportunity to host a psychedelic-guided art experience during Art Basel for a group. Witnessing the participants’ ability to connect deeply with their inner worlds and process emotions was transformative. It showed me the unique role of art as a tool to foster connection, self-discovery, and emotional release. I’m thrilled to offer this experience again this year.
Today, my mission is to share the healing power of art and therapy with others. Through one-on-one therapy, curated therapeutic art experiences, and wellness consultations for organizations, I guide clients toward greater grounding, confidence, and clarity, no matter how uncertain their path may seem.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Haha, ‘smooth road’ feels like a myth in the world of self-discovery and healing! If anything, I’d say there’s been no road—just a series of steps forward with a lot of trust that I’ll find solid ground along the way. My biggest struggle has been creating a sense of safety and self-trust, especially in moments when I felt uncertain or vulnerable. The journey required me to break down old beliefs, question societal expectations, and continuously work through my own blocks.
Learning to trust myself enough to keep going, even when the path is unclear, has been an ongoing practice. I’ve had to remind myself that growth often comes with discomfort, and that’s been a powerful part of my journey. It’s also what allows me to guide clients who are in their own spaces of uncertainty, helping them cultivate that inner sense of safety and resilience.
We’ve been impressed with Self Discovery Atlas, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a licensed psychotherapist and visual artist, my work bridges emotional wellness with creative expression. I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients across cultures, backgrounds, and life stages. What I’ve found is a common thread: our inner child often holds the key to our present selves. Many adults struggle with reconnecting to that part of themselves, and that’s where my work comes in. By combining creativity with therapeutic practices, I guide clients on a journey inward—one that’s safe, impactful, and empowers them to sustain their own healing long after our sessions.
I’m trained in evolutionary biology, psychology, and cultural studies, which allows me to support clients in building a strong connection between mind and body. In 2021, I was honored to serve as the first official mindset coach for the USA Pageants, guiding young women to embrace confidence in their uniqueness. This was an incredible project for me because, traditionally, women were not taught to ‘be themselves and have fun’—especially in competitive spaces. Seeing these young women step into their power was deeply rewarding and affirmed my belief that when women heal, we have the power to heal future generations!
My current offerings include:
1. Individual Therapy – Personalized sessions for deeper self-connection and emotional resilience.
2. Curated Therapeutic Art Experiences – Designed for private groups, these sessions create a space for participants to explore their inner worlds and process emotions through art.
3. Consultation Services for Organizations – Helping businesses implement creative wellness programs and team-building experiences that prioritize emotional health and connection.
At the heart of my brand is the mission to empower individuals—especially women—to harness their innate strength, heal deeply, and find joy in their authenticity. I want readers to know that my approach is more than just therapy; it’s an invitation to rediscover oneself in a supportive, transformative way.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Self-trust and rethinking limitations have been crucial to my success. As a first-generation Asian woman and the only child of a single immigrant mother, there’s often a voice inside urging me to play it safe, to stick with what’s familiar. But I’ve learned that the most important step forward is allowing myself to trust my own instincts and reframe those inherited limitations as opportunities. Whenever self-doubt creeps in, I remind myself how far I’ve come—and give myself permission to continue growing into all the best versions of me. Embracing this journey with courage has allowed me to push past boundaries, both in my life and in my work with my clients.
