Hi Destiny, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Back in November of 2018, I had my lashes done for the very first time and my confidence the next two weeks was sky high! I absolutely loved my lashes, I needed a refill and my tech failed to follow through on her part of the appointment. I remember complaining to my boyfriend, “it can’t be that hard to own a business,” and he said, “try doing lashes, babe, you don’t know her situation”. So I started to look into it.
I took a course in June of 2019 on a Saturday, on Sunday, I wrote my two-week resignation later (I worked at a Derm office) and on Monday, I ended up quitting. I was beyond terrified by my decision. The following week I did my calculations to see how much I made and I had matched my income from my full-time job! I only moved up from there. Within the last two years, I’ve taken four lash courses, a teeth whitening course, a tooth gem course and just two weeks ago, I took an ombré powder course! I now rent at two different salons hoping to expand my clientele and spread the “Miami Wink” reputation.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not! All my lash techs can agree building clientele is NOT easy. RETENTION IS NOT EASY! But we work our way through. Retention is a problem I had at the beginning, I remember almost quitting due to retention, but you roll with the punches! You either adjust your glue or adjust your environment and that’s exactly what I did!

I definitely specialize with my quickly and widely know the style of lash extensions called “the drip set”! My relationship with my clients definitely sets me apart from others. I can honestly say I personally know each and every client of mine! Every time they walk in, it’s catching up right where we left off the last appointment, whether it’s “how are your parents?” or “is your boyfriend behaving?”. My biggest accomplishment by far is coming out with my own lash tray collection!
Can you talk about how you think about risk?
Risk takers are the money makers! My father is also a business owner and he opened up locations not knowing how they’d do! But he always did great!
I took a lash course on a Saturday, not having any clientele, not knowing if I’d even be any good and Monday morning, I have quit my full-time job and was officially self-employed! That risk is the best decision I could have ever made!
