Today we’d like to introduce you to Conrad Kolk
Hi Conrad, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Living and growing up in Miami has always put me close to nature. Early memories of canoeing with my father and seeing trash littered mangroves defined parts of my childhood and my character. Knowing the imminent effects of climate change and experiencing them first hand, I was compelled to do all I could to make as much of a difference as possible. Joining together with friends we decided to form KMLOEC to help clean up our environment and be the change we wanted to see.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since starting out, our organization has faced many challenges and set backs. Being committed to both retaining our nonprofit structure while also not expecting any financial compensation from our members has made it difficult at times to both organize events and keep operations moving smoothly. We have been able to persevere through the hard work and dedication of our members. Utilizing their work and social media such as instagram to help spread our mission and attract new members. This has been a core aspect of making sure KMLOEC remains successful and viable for years to come.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Kevin M. Liston Organization for Environmental Conservation ?
The Kevin M. Liston Organization for Environmental Conservation, or KMLOEC, is a Miami based nonprofit organization committed to making a change in our local environment. We help organize beach clean ups and other important events that contribute to eliminating pollution and litter. Here we pride ourselves on striving to make the biggest difference possible with our sometimes limited resources. We rely on the voluntary service of our members to keep our organization moving. In addition, our committed Executive Board of just six people helps to manage and organize our organization and events. We are different from other local nonprofits as we don’t require any payment or donations from our members. We rely solely on the work and effort from our members and their core values of perseverance, determination and a passion for making a change. To join one only needs to reach out and express interest in becoming part of the KMLOEC movement.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
A characteristic that I feel is most important to our organization’s success is our member’s unwavering commitment to both each other and the environment. Their tenacious attitudes towards our cause help to ensure we always make the biggest possible difference. During our beach clean ups and other events our members are the ones that help make our plans come into fruition. Without them KMLOEC would not be where it is today.
