Today we’d like to introduce you to Colby Uva.
Colby, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was introduced to the marine industry early on here in Miami, going down to the Florida Keys with my dad as a kid to visit customers like commercial lobster fishermen in the Florida Keys, where he also ran a branch of his diesel engine parts business. That gave me a real, ground-level understanding of how these businesses operate and the importance of relationships in this industry.
I attended Christopher Columbus High School before finishing at MAST Academy, and later went on to the University of Miami, where I pursued both Marine Affairs and an MBA. Being in Miami, surrounded by the marine industry, helped shape both my education and the direction I ultimately took professionally.
My first W-2 job was at a local tackle shop, Captain Harry’s, where I learned the retail side of the business. From there, I went on to build Bullbuster, a direct-to-consumer fishing line company, along with an online fishing magazine. Over more than a decade, we grew the platform to include over 400 contributing writers and reach approximately 67,000 monthly website visitors. That experience taught me how to build a brand, scale content, and turn attention into real revenue.
I later applied those same principles to my family’s diesel engine parts business, helping expand its reach through digital channels. Along the way, I’ve also had the opportunity to work with a wide range of organizations—from NFL teams and multinational brands to outdoor equipment manufacturers with national distribution, as well as aircraft parts and logistics companies.
Today, I focus on helping businesses grow online and increase their lead flow. What I’ve consistently found is that many companies are excellent at what they do operationally, but they haven’t fully adapted to how customers search today—whether that’s through Google or increasingly through AI-driven platforms.
My mission is simple: take businesses that already work in the real world and build them a digital engine that drives consistent visibility, leads, and revenue.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. A lot of what I’ve built came through trial and error, especially in the early days of running my own business. When you’re building something from scratch, you’re figuring out product, marketing, operations, and cash flow all at the same time—and there’s no real playbook.
One of the biggest challenges was consistency—staying committed long enough for the work to compound. There were periods where results weren’t immediate, and you have to keep publishing, keep testing, and keep improving without instant feedback. That’s something a lot of people underestimate with content and digital growth.
Another challenge was bridging traditional industries with modern systems. Many of the businesses I’ve worked with are extremely strong operationally, but adapting to digital marketing, SEO, and now AI-driven search requires a shift in mindset, not just tactics. Helping teams understand and trust that process can take time.
There have also been personal and external challenges along the way, but those experiences have ultimately reinforced the same lesson: focus on what you can control, keep building, and let the results stack over time.
Looking back, none of it was smooth—but all of it was necessary to get to where I am today.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I help businesses build digital assets that pay dividends over time and turn their online presence into a consistent source of leads and revenue. I do this through SEO-driven content, YouTube strategy, and long-term systems designed to continuously generate traffic and customers.
Most of the companies I work with are strong operationally, especially in marine, industrial, and technical industries, but have not fully adapted to how buyers search today. I help bridge that gap by getting them visible on platforms like Google, YouTube, and emerging AI-driven search.
What sets me apart is that I have done this as both an operator and a service provider. I have built and scaled my own direct-to-consumer brand and media platform, and applied those same systems across industries including marine, outdoor, aviation, and logistics.
I am most proud of building content ecosystems that compound, with hundreds of contributors, tens of thousands of monthly visitors, and thousands of assets working together to drive results.
What I want readers to know is that there is a major opportunity right now. Businesses that adapt to how people search today can create a lasting competitive advantage.
Any big plans?
Looking ahead, I’m focused on continuing to build scalable digital assets and expanding the ecosystems around them, both for my own brands and for the businesses I work with. As search continues to evolve with AI, I see a major opportunity for companies that adapt early, and I plan to stay at the forefront of that shift by building systems that work across Google, YouTube, and emerging platforms.
At the same time, fishing has always been a big part of my life, and I have a few personal goals I’m working toward as well. I’ve been fortunate to check off some major bucket list species recently, including roosterfish and Pacific bluefin tuna. One that’s still on my horizon is catching a blue marlin, which is something I’ve been working toward and looking forward to for a long time.
For me, both business and fishing share a similar mindset. It’s about putting in consistent effort, being in the right places, and thinking long-term. Whether it’s building a company or chasing a fish you haven’t landed yet, the process is a big part of what keeps me motivated.
