Exploring Life & Business with Brittany Farinas of House of One

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Farinas.

Hi Brittany, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up around furniture and interior design, my mom worked at El Dorado Furniture for most of my childhood, so I spent a lot of time there. When I graduated high school, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to pursue, but I knew I wanted to be in the design realm.

I thought about fashion design but quickly realized that my passion for interior design was much stronger. I was never educated on what an interior designer’s job entails, but once I did my research, I knew it was for me. I got my real estate license and studied at UM and MIU, and I got my first project at 21 years old, a 4,500-square foot gut renovation. Everything else is history.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There’s definitely been bumps on the road. I got so busy at one point working on ten projects myself and knew it was time to start hiring. That transitioning process from being a solo entrepreneur to managing over 15 projects and a team of four was definitely my biggest challenge, but it’s been a great journey so far and I feel very lucky to be able to work on these projects with my amazing team and clients.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about House of One?
As the CEO + Creative Director for House of One, a Miami-based design firm, we specialize in creating curated, luxury interiors for a variety of projects in the residential and commercial space. At our firm, I lead a team of designers and architects to oversee design concepts throughout South Florida for marquee projects and have recently collaborated with two product lines, one a wallpaper collection with Candice Kaye and a series of mirrored furniture with Precipice Glassworks.

My approach to design can be described as: “Curated Chic Luxury Living” and my relationship with clients is always based around honesty, integrity, and authenticity. Everything we design is one-of-one, which makes our firm one of the stand-out talents coming out of Miami and we’re just getting started.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I think the pandemic prompted more people to understand the value of hiring an interior designer, given how much time was spent indoors. Especially here in Miami with the real estate market booming, people more than ever are looking to us designers to help them get the best return of their investments, whether it’s to flip the home or design it as a forever home.
