Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Forman.
Hi Brenda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My start, I am a active License Realtor by trade for 19 years now, but at the time that I ran for this office, I had been a realtor for 10 years. It was not a dream of mine to run for this office at this time, just on my own. I am a woman of faith and believe in the power of prayer.
my story may sound strange to some and to others it’s faith. I had a dream from God to run for this office, which at first I paused (2014), this was after my then husband stated he was going to retire, at this time I did nothing.
In 2015 I had the same dream. So by now, I had to answer the call. So In 2015, I applied with the supervisor of elections to run, now the rest is history
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The first 4 years was rough, During the election, I was the under dog, at the time of my running, there had never been a person of color, now a woman to run for the position of the Broward County Clerk of Courts. Many did not want to see me become the clerk. But, I stood my ground thru all the negativity, amongst some other terrible things.
It has been 9 years now, but because I stood my ground on TRUTH, I have prevailed and am now serving my 3rd term as the Clerk of Courts
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Broward County Clerk of Courts?
The Clerk of Courts, we are the collector of fees, fines, court cost and protector of public records. We also, have passport at all of our locations, Plantation office, Hollywood office, Hillsborough and the main location downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Clerk of Courts consist of County and Circuit Court. Broward County is the 17th circuit. The Clerk of Courts pertains to all legal proceedings.
There are 67 clerks in the State of Florida, all of us have statutory duties that we all must follow, even though all 67 counties, may perform differently because of the size of the county.
what set up apart from others is that our Customer Service is absolutely NUMBER 1 for my organization.
The Clerk office is only the collector of fees, fines and court cost, we do not interfere with anyone record or filings, we cannot make any changes to any documents without a court order. We do not interfere with judges decision on any case.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
In Broward County, there are 31 cities, with Ft. Lauderdale being one of the largest. I feel that Ft. Lauderdale is a great city that brings in a lot of visitors to enjoy what we have to offer.
I do not have any dislikes, yes, there are good and bad, which comes with every city, county and state.
I do not have any gripe about it.
