Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Treadaway.
Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I am a former professional dancer, classically trained in ballet, hip-hop, jazz, and tap in both Michigan and Georgia. I began professionally performing and teaching all four forms of dance at age 16.
I bought Barre Envy as an existing business in 2017 to make it the only luxury boutique barre studio in our city, and am very proud to say I’ve achieved just that.
I am also the creator of The Barre Envy Method, a proprietary and innovative barre style that combines my former training as a professional ballerina with my energetic passion to see others live young, increase strength, and grow in self-confidence.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Buying an existing business always has its challenges. It requires time and a lot of intentional effort to transition the vision of another entrepreneur into your own. Just when Barre Envy began catching steam under my leadership, the pandemic hit and the world shut down. We managed to pivot and began offering online classes to keep clients engaged.
The moment our city began opening back up, we introduced pop-up fitness classes at local bars and restaurants to gain visibility once again. Quickly introducing a new business model or approach to your service can make it challenging to navigate and manage, but my team and I stayed nimble and focused and things smoothed out quickly, leading us to where we are today.

With my background in dance and being a fitness enthusiast, I’ve spent my life in studios learning and working out. So many studios begin with an exciting vision and over time become impersonal and mundane. Before you know it, everyone comes in, lowers their head, works out, and then leaves. I’ve always had the dream that a fitness studio could be so much more than a place to simply go sweat.
When I bought Barre Envy as an established business 5 years ago, I knew from the beginning what I wanted to accomplish, and have remained laser-focused on being honest about who we are and providing an exciting place people love to come to. We now offer special themed classes, and fun workout pop-ups at local bars and restaurants, and are heavily involved in our city’s initiatives to make Delray Beach a special place for locals and tourists alike. We now have a community among our clients that is unlike any other gym. You truly feel like family!
Our Boutique Barre Studio offers a small class-size atmosphere where we give you specialized instruction to keep you in proper form and alignment while challenging you to find an amazing workout to make you your best self!
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The COVID-19 crisis taught me a ton about our need for connection. Having a business that relies on personal proximity and touch, going online was a quick pivot that happened within a matter of days.
It took some trial and error but it was amazing to “see” our clients online, still working out even though we were 1,000 miles away. We even had virtual themed classes where we dressed up in crazy workout outfits even though we couldn’t be around one another in person.
