Hi Ashley and Kanetria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For years, we talked about starting a business together but could never quite decide what it would be. Eventually, Elegant Elopements came to life out of our shared dream to create something meaningful for the community. It’s a fully decorated micro-wedding space that gives couples a beautiful, luxury alternative to a courthouse ceremony or small vow renewal. Our suite holds up to eight guests, and the building itself makes for amazing photo spots—from the front lawn to the grand staircase inside. My sister and I wanted to build something family-owned, elegant, and affordable, and with the rise of micro-weddings, it just made sense. We’ve only been open a few months, but we’ve already hosted some gorgeous weddings and received so much positive feedback.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Our biggest challenge has been getting the word out and reaching the right audience — couples who are looking for, or would love a stress-free option beyond the courthouse in a stylish space like ours. Even though we’re active on social media, it’s been tricky getting in front of those who might otherwise choose a courthouse simply because they don’t know there’s a beautiful alternative available.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Yes, starting a niche business like this has definitely been a risk on its own-and doing it in this economy added another layer of challenge. When we were setting everything up, we were racing against time with the impending tariffs, trying to secure what we needed before prices went up. Even now, we’re seeing how much costs have increased since the beginning of the year when we made most of our initial purchases. It’s been a learning experience in timing, budgeting, and staying flexible through uncertainty.
My sister and I invested in an idea that didn’t have a clear blueprint-something different from the traditional wedding venue model. There were moments when we questioned if people would understand what a micro-wedding space really was or if couples would even be open to something different from the traditional route. But we believed in the vision and in each other.
We’ve learned that risk doesn’t always feel brave in the moment-it often feels uncertain. But looking back, every risk we took helped us grow, refine our purpose, and prove that sometimes you have to bet on yourself to make something special happen. Every big step comes with some fear, but everyone who has achieved anything great, had to take a leap of faith.
