Exploring Life & Business with Alyona of Loulou House

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyona.

Hi Alyona , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey as a single mom with a very personal idea — to create a space I felt was missing in the city. I wanted a place where both children and parents could truly enjoy their time together, not just coexist, but connect, relax, and feel inspired. That’s how Loulou House was born.

From the beginning, I envisioned it as more than just a play space — it had to be a community. A place where kids could play, learn, and interact gadget-free, while parents could meet, share experiences, or simply focus on their own work. It was important to me that a mom could have her coffee, take a call, or open her laptop, knowing her child was safe, engaged, and having fun.

The early days weren’t easy, but the response was incredible. Families kept coming back, bringing friends, and spreading the word. Slowly, Lulu House became a place where people know each other by name and feel at home.

Today, we’ve built a vibrant community of about 50 active members who regularly attend our events. We’ve hosted over 50 birthday parties, along with baby showers, bar and bat mitzvahs, and other family celebrations. We offer something different — a comfortable, thoughtfully designed space with Wi-Fi, coffee, snacks, and everything parents and kids need under one roof.

What matters most is the community we’ve created. Loulou House has become a space where families feel safe, supported, and connected. We’re proud of what we’ve built so far and excited about what’s ahead as we plan to grow and expand

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any entrepreneurial journey, building LOU LOU HOUSE came with its share of obstacles — and in many ways, those challenges are still part of our growth today. From the very beginning, navigating permits, construction, and transforming an old house into something warm and functional required patience, resilience, and constant problem-solving. Every detail — from layout to materials and safety — had to be thoughtfully designed from scratch.

One of the biggest challenges was that there wasn’t a clear blueprint to follow. Concepts like LOU LOU HOUSE are still rare, which meant we had to build our own model, test ideas in real time, and learn through experience. Not everything worked the way we expected, and many of our most valuable lessons came from trial and error — understanding what resonates with families, what doesn’t, and how to continuously refine our offerings.

Finding the balance between delivering an exceptional experience and maintaining a sustainable business has been an ongoing challenge. What families truly love and value isn’t always what makes the business profitable, and at times, we had to make difficult decisions to protect both. We’ve also faced moments of misalignment — with customers whose expectations didn’t match our values, and with contractors who didn’t deliver as promised.

But each of these experiences shaped us. They pushed us to become more intentional, more resilient, and more focused on what truly matters. Building LOU LOU HOUSE has never been about perfection — it’s about creating something meaningful, evolving with our community, and growing stronger with every step forward.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
This place I created as a parent for another parent with a lot of love and thoughts.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I moved to the US 5 years ago with my son and one suitcase. I sing and write music. I worked for Ralph Lauren as a fashion buyer before I moved to the US.
