Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Morrison
Hi Alicia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The name Rise & Shine Pediatrics reflects my faith and my commitment to being a beacon of light for others. It’s a practice built on compassion, where I can live out my calling to serve the pediatric community—shining through every interaction and offering hope and guidance to those who walk through my doors.
I grew up in Boca Raton, FL, raised by hardworking Jamaican parents who instilled in me the value of education and seizing opportunities. They worked tirelessly to give my sisters and me opportunities they never had. From a young age, I loved working with children and was deeply passionate about medicine. Pediatrics became my calling, aligning both my passion and purpose.
However, after working in the traditional healthcare system, I found the rushed, assembly-line style of care led to burnout and compromised the quality of care I was able to provide. After experiencing this firsthand in my first two jobs, I knew I needed to create a practice where I could truly serve my patients the way I envisioned—providing personalized, compassionate care in an environment where every family feels valued and heard.
That’s when I founded Rise & Shine Pediatrics, offering a unique approach to pediatric care that prioritizes meaningful relationships and takes the time to truly understand each child’s needs. And what better place to do so than in the very community that helped shape me? I laugh now because about a year ago, I said I would never open my own practice—it’s a lot of work! But when you’re passionate about something, you find the energy to make it happen.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting Rise & Shine Pediatrics came with several challenges, including building trust and awareness in the community. As a new practice, many families were unfamiliar with the Direct Primary Care (DPC) model, and it took time to educate them on the benefits of personalized, patient-centered care. Another hurdle was managing both patient care and the administrative work that comes with running a business. As the sole provider, balancing finances, marketing, and scheduling required long hours and strong time management. Additionally, establishing partnerships with other healthcare providers and specialists took time and persistence but was necessary for creating a reliable network to support my patients’ needs.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
As a Christian, I believe that God’s hand has played a central role in my life and my business journey, and I don’t rely on luck. While there have certainly been challenges along the way, I see each of them as an opportunity to trust in God’s plan and timing. I believe that He has guided me in starting Rise & Shine Pediatrics, especially after experiencing burnout in my previous roles. Taking time to reflect and heal helped me recognize that God was calling me to create a practice that aligns with my faith and values, where I could serve others in a meaningful way.
There have been moments where things seemed to fall into place at just the right time, which I see as God’s provision rather than mere luck. At the same time, I’ve faced struggles that required me to lean into my faith even more deeply, knowing that God’s strength and guidance would see me through.
Ultimately, I believe that everything I’ve experienced—both the challenges and the successes—has been part of God’s plan for me. My faith in Him has given me the strength to persevere, and I trust that He will continue to guide me as I serve my patients and community through Rise & Shine Pediatrics.
