Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Amores.
Hi Alejandro, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We are a Medical and Mental Health Center founded in 2019 by two people, Alina Sanchez and Alejandro Amores. We immigrated from Cuba, escaping communism and looking for an honest and better opportunity to live. We both completed psychological studies and completed several other studies. We provide mental and medical services to our community, adults, and children in two different facilities. We are situated in the Kendall area and in Palmetto Bay. We serve our patients suffering from Autism, depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions. We also provide assistance to vulnerable adults and children with our excellent team of targeted case managers all around Miami-Dade. We also provide medical health consultations with our primary care physicians, and we fight hard to help our community against substance use. Recently, we opened our small laboratory for blood tests and other typical tests. Our goal is to achieve the best and excellent service to the people in need, and we are proud to see positive results immediately they start their treatment.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The main obstacle is the relationship with some insurance plans and the authorization for their members to receive the treatment. The challenge is to survive the policies changing every year with insurance plans and the government agencies to approve the members’ treatment for mental health conditions.
There is a lack of knowledge about autism and mental health therapies in the state, federal, and insurance agencies to understand how the service is provided and the medical necessity for every patient individually.
Another challenge is the reimbursement from the insurance plans. Sometimes they are late, and sometimes they take a long time to pay for the provided services. As always, the big fish eat the small ones. We fight hard to obtain a contract, and then it is complicated that the insurance plans fulfill their part in the contract.
Another challenge is the competence with other centers and/or the big medical centers, but we are proud to have a high level of acceptance for our patients to return and to stay in our treatment programs.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We have been open since 2019. We provide an excellent service to the people in our community and from other places in Miami-Dade County coming to our center to change their lives for the best and to be reintegrated into society.
We specialize in Mental Health and primary care services. (Psychiatry, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Individual and group therapy, Targeted case management, ABA therapy=Autism therapy, Primary Care Service, Substance Use program, speech, occupational, physical, and respiratory therapies.
Our excellent service and our high rate of positive treatment make us different from other similar centers.
We are a center that is always open and ready to help people to continue their lives in the best and positive way.
How do you think about happiness?
When we see depressed people changing their lives and returning to the community with a happy face, it is a positive sign.
When a child comes to our center without looking in the eyes or even without talking and/or pronouncing a single word, and in the blink of an eye, they start to talk to change their behavior.
When a person comes anxious and/or depressed because they feel that their life is hard, and after receiving our treatment, they return to their job and to their community with a positive and better mood.
We love happiness, and that is what we try to transmit to people coming to our center. When we change lives for the good and better, that makes us happy.
