We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dionys Kam. Check out our conversation below.
Dionys, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I have remodeled my work space recently. The space is now more accommodating to my work routine. I have added curious art items that compliment the overall area. The space also acts like a media room where I enjoy music and movies.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I worked for a publisher as the account manager for 10 years. During that time I travelled extensively exploring nature and various cultures. Those trips helped develop my technical and artistic abilities related to photography and video production. After a few years of doing photo and video freelance projects, I started Dny Revelations in 2013.
Dny Revelations is devoted to producing unique photos and videos. I cover social events, corporate functions and business promotions. Dny also provides helpful consultation in the planning stage for events and projects.
Recently I have been working with Creative Canvas Studios Miami doing various portrait work. I have also been doing the video production for conferences put on by TEDx.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
During my last year of high school I was getting into trouble. One of my teachers helped get me in college. Her influence helped me get out of the negative mind set I had.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
As the year 2020 progressed I found myself in a survival mode. I was willing to let go of Dny Revelations after 7 years of steady business. By the end of the year I started to land a few photo and video jobs again. In recent months I have been steadily active even more so than prior to 2020.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
There has been rapid change in media creation in recent years. Advanced technology has made many tasks much easier. I do think these tools are good. What I do not like is how many creative decision are given to (AI “Automated Implementation”) I do not expect for this trend to fade anytime soon.
A friend had an automated song made for me with a few words he fed the program. I did not like the automated song at all. Yet we are in a time that most of the top songs that people like are automated to a significant degree.
I hope there will be few people left that would still see the value of original media creation.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I try to give my best in all that I do simply because of the standards based on integrity that I am committed to. I have learned not to depend on the praise of others for anything that I do. I am often initiating personal creative projects that no one has seen or heard. I am happy just to be able to take on these projects for the sake of the process and the enjoyment of the final result.
I do look to satisfy my clients and colleagues when I am involved in a group project.
