Diego Cowks of Fort Lauderdale/Wilton Manors on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Diego Cowks and have shared our conversation below.

Diego, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes, I would hire me — absolutely.

Why? Because I bring a mix of creativity, experience, and genuine passion to every project I take on. I’ve been doing this for over 20 years, and I still get excited about telling stories and solving problems visually. I’m also super reliable — if I say I’m going to deliver something, I will. No drama, no excuses.

At the same time, I’m always learning. I don’t think I know it all, and I’m always open to feedback or finding new ways to improve. So yeah — I’d hire me because I’m both solid and adaptable, and I care about doing great work and making the process enjoyable for everyone involved.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey! I’m Diego — I’m an actor and director with over 20 years of experience in the industry. I’ve worked across film, TV, commercials, and digital content, and while acting is where it all started for me, over time I fell in love with directing and building stories from behind the camera too.

I run Goool Films & Content, a full-service production company based in South Florida. We specialize in creating everything from branded campaigns to social media content, documentaries, and scripted pieces. What makes us special is how we combine strong storytelling with high production value — always keeping the message and the audience in mind.

I still act — that’s my essence, it’s where I come from and what fuels my creativity. But professionally and financially, most of my work these days is through my production company. I spend a lot of time directing and producing content for brands, agencies, and digital platforms. It’s a great balance — acting keeps me grounded and connected, and directing allows me to build stories from a wider perspective.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was a kid full of energy — always outside, playing sports, constantly moving, always curious. But everything changed when I was diagnosed with cancer. Suddenly, all those activities that brought me joy and freedom were taken away. On top of that, I was growing up in a home marked by violence, which made it even harder to find a sense of safety or escape.

Then something unexpected happened — my school started offering theater classes. I signed up, not really knowing what to expect… and I fell in love with it. Acting gave me a voice, a space to express everything I was carrying inside. I truly believe it saved me. It gave me purpose, identity, and a path forward — one that still defines who I am today.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
One of the most defining wounds of my life was going through cancer as a child. It not only forced me to grow up quickly, but it also took away the freedom and joy I had found in everyday life — especially in sports and being active. At the same time, I was living in a home with violence, which added another layer of fear and instability during an already fragile time.

Healing didn’t happen all at once. It came slowly, and in pieces — through art, through connection, through storytelling. Finding acting at school was a turning point. It gave me an outlet, a sense of identity, and something to hold on to. Later, directing became another way to process and transform those experiences into something meaningful.

I think healing, for me, has come through creativity. Through turning pain into stories that connect with others — and through building a life where I get to create, express, and hopefully help others feel seen too.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is empathy — real, human empathy. Whether I’m on set, in a creative meeting, or just navigating life, I truly believe in seeing people for who they are, listening to their stories, and treating everyone with dignity and respect.

Coming from a background where I experienced both hardship and healing, I know how powerful it is when someone simply cares. In my company and in my work, I try to create a space where people feel safe, heard, and valued — no matter their role, background, or experience. Empathy builds trust, and trust is what makes great stories — and great teams — possible.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say I was a fighter — someone who never gave up, no matter how hard things got. That I turned pain into purpose, and that I faced life with both grit and heart.

I hope they remember me as a creator — someone who told stories that mattered, who moved people, who made them feel seen or inspired. And also as someone who lifted others up, who believed in talent, in second chances, in the beauty of imperfection.

More than anything, I hope they say I lived with passion, with empathy, and with a sense of humor — and that I left something meaningful behind.
