We’re looking forward to introducing you to Danelle Pinnock. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Danelle, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Quite a few of my friends and myself recently turned 40 and so we’ve been having number of birthday celebrations and it’s been back to back moments of pure joy, smiling till my cheeks hurt and laughing till my belly hurts. It’s been refreshing to set aside time to truly celerbate each other, salute the accomplishments, treasure the growth, acknowledge the struggles both those past and those presently going on.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Danelle Pinnock. Jamaican, Christian, wife, mother, author, speaker, survivor, amongst other things.
I am presently a freelance author and speaker who spreads the message of encouragement, resilience and hope in God using my own life experiences.
I definitely did not set out on this path of my own accord, my back ground and training is in science, specifically chemistry, but life took a different turn and here I am.
I think what makes what I offer unique is that it’s not something I’ve researched, trained or been taught it is my real life, lived experience and I think that allows me to connect with various persons in a unique way.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
As a child I was always taller and bigger than everyone else my age and because of that I was usually requested to assist the adults in charge or put in charge when adults had to be absent for whatever reason. My earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I was about 6 years old and I was chosen to represent my class to accompany a special guest to our school, as they toured the school grounds.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
As you grow in your walk with God you learn that suffering is a necessary part of the process. It is during times of sufferring that I have seen and felt the hand of God most clearly in my life. Suffering has exposed certain aspects of my personality that needed to be worked on, suffering has forced me to walk in humility and accept the assistance of others, suffering has made me appreciate the importance of starting AND staring again.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My mother, Carol Madden.
For as long as I can remember my mother has exemplified selflessness, love for family, love for God, integrity, resourcefulness, practical love and a whole host of other things.
I grew up learning to care for others by simply watching how my parents ran our household, they both extended open arms to others in need of counselling, advice, financial assistance, a meal, a place to stay, they truly practiced what they preached and my mother has been a 2nd mom to a countless number of my friends and my siblings friends.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I never gave up and even when I got things wrong that my heart was always seeking after the Lord and I walked in humility and integrity.
