Daily Inspiration: Meet Zachary Vazquez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zachary Vazquez

Zachary , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up I was always very athletic and worked hard. My life has always been health and wellness as the top
priority. I have always believed that everything you want to be and do starts in the gym first and then stems out from there. When I was 18 years old, I had a photographer spot me in Florida and asked me if I had ever considered fitness modeling. I said never and agreed to do a test photo shoot. I spent lots of time in Florida doing athletic photo shoots and eventually was able to model out of state and internationally as well. In 2012, I decided that I wanted more from this looks and talent based profession. I really enjoy it and wanted to get as much from entertainment as I possibly can. I chose to expand on my career by getting involved with some serious acting training and showcasing myself as much as possible. This led to gaining more experience which has led to more opportunities. My mentality from the fitness lifestyle carried over to the acting aspirations. No one can be fit and healthy without training and it’s the same way with your abilities as an actor. You have to exercise and train your skills always if you want to maximize your potential in anything.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This is a very very competitive industry. Everyone wants to do it and those that don’t know will always calls it luck when you have success and book a great gig. But the reality is luck is just preparation meeting opportunities. If you’re not prepared when the opportunity comes, you aren’t gonna have any luck. It’s a lot of work to constantly improve yourself for minimal reward sometimes. But you have to invest in yourself. You have to work very hard and pay your dues. Because sooner or later, people will have no choice but to notice you and everything you are doing. You have to be willing to make that sacrifice and put this first to even have a chance. I have lost serious relationships over the doubt. It’s not a family friendly lifestyle. I’ve lost opportunities with more stable, consistent professions, but those aren’t my passion. You have to believe in yourself and stay positive always even if it means you’re alone. Don’t let any naysayers affect you or slow you down, no matter who they are or where they’re from. You have to believe in yourself and trust in everything you’re doing. The more you are willing to do what others won’t, the more chances you have at success. You have to face rejection constantly and you have to know how to handle that. You might be told No 100 times before you get a Yes. You have to believe that all of the work you’re doing to get better will bring you closer to the Yes. This industry is not for the weak or the impatient. It’s a very long tough road full of obstacles to overcome to get anywhere and gain any progress. In September of 2020,I was involved in a fatal car accident when a drunk driver crashed into me head on and killed himself. This left me in a critical condition nearly taking my life, hospitalizing me for 6 weeks, and left me permanently injured. I spent 3 months in a wheelchair, and put me in a situation where it was going to take an incredible amount of work and long therapy for me to recover and attempt to live a normal life again. I had just been married 6 months prior and my wife filed for divorce during this experience as well. I thought for sure I would never model or act again. However, I took all those negatives and made sure to transform it into a positive. I used the drunk driver and the loss of my wife as fuel and fire for my comeback. The same mentality that I have always had with my work ethic is what enabled me to get back in this profession and be busier than I have ever been. I feel stronger than ever and I know that nothing can stop me. The mind and attitude will always control the body and the results. Conquer

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work in the entertainment industry as an actor, model, and emcee. I have been blessed to meet and work with so many amazing people in this industry. Most people will always want to discuss my experiences on the Walking Dead or on Baywatch. My specialty is anything that requires an athletic look. I’ve been involved in various different types of roles. My favorite thing is to have the ability and opportunity to showcase my versatility. I am a character actor and the more unique the character, the better. I hate the idea of being typecast and feel it really limits my opportunities sometimes. Therefore I go above and beyond to not fall into that category. I think what sets me apart the most from others is that this is my life entirely. It’s not something that is a hobby or takes second place to anything. I have no family and not much of a personal life. This career is my passion and my purpose so I live my life dedicated to these roles. Preparation and submerging yourself in the character is the most important thing always. You have to stay focused and distraction free in order to fully achieve that. I live my life on call with this industry and am always ready for any time at any place.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the beaches. I love the Miami Hurricanes. I love the nightlife. I love the international feel all over and the Latin culture that surrounds it. It’s an exciting place filled with so many beautiful, interesting, and exotic people. Professionally, some of my greatest opportunities and events have come from this area. I absolutely dislike the traffic when it gets bad and the heat gets to be too hot sometimes as well. It can also be vey expensive at times depending on where you go.
