Today we’d like to introduce you to Yuli Solis.
Yuli, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Cameras have been part of my life since I can remember. Growing up, my dad was very into cameras and documenting our family life. It got to the point where I would tell him to record me giving a detailed run down of my day. At age 5, I would creatively direct my own photoshoots and have my dad as my photographer!
My parents noticed that I was so comfortable in front of the cameras and started putting me in modeling. I did a couple of campaigns for child brands like; Gap, OshKosh B’Gosh, and even walked my first fashion show at age 6! Everything was going smooth and I was enjoying modeling to the fullest until I reached my tween years and my mom decided that it’d be best to put it on the back burner and focus on school and just growing up.
At age 19, I decided that I was going to embark on this journey regardless if I was signed to an agency or not! And guess what? I did it! I began attending photography events and shooting with every photographer possible. I started getting my name out there and would roughly do about 2-3 shoots a week! I started garnering much attention and my Instagram was growing, but I had one problem… I had braces!
I heard a lot of “No, we can’t have you as a leader in a video because you have braces!” but that didn’t stop me. Some said no because of the braces and others actually loved them! Then, in February 2020 I got my big break… being the lead in Bad Bunny’s “La Dificil” music video. That was a dream come true because it was my debut as an actress in a music video, but it was a personal win because I did it with my braces!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
From the outside looking in it looks like it has been a smooth road, but there have been ups and downs. There has been rejection, unsupportive friends, etc.
As I mentioned before, I began my modeling career with braces! Though some people loved them, I faced a lot of rejection! Many people told me that I couldn’t be a model just because I had braces.
This caused me to grow a thick skin and not allow outside noise to distract me from my journey.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a freelance model, host, actress, and content creator. My passion is being in front of the camera and entertaining. I do a little bit of everything; print shoots, music videos, commercials, acting skits!
I’ve done a great number of campaigns for local designers like Tashe Designs and Maly Swimwear as well as collaborative ads for brands like Shein, Pretty Little Thing, etc.
My acting can be seen in various music videos like Bad Bunny’s “La Dificil”, Yahritza y Su Esencia’s EP’s entire music videos, and many more. I also starred in a commercial for Nair!
I’m grateful for all the projects I’ve been part of and what’s to come. I think what sets me apart from others is my will to succeed and my work ethic. I don’t take no for an answer and I go after what I want.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has played a somewhat of a role in my life, but I don’t solely attribute it to my success.
