Daily Inspiration: Meet Yasmine Creese-Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasmine Creese-Brown.

Hi Yasmine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Grlpire™, formerly known as It Grl Empire, is an inclusive publishing company inspired by the many hues of us. We offer many art-related items, such as collection journals, useful planners, and a growing comic book series.

We started as a community that highlighted the beauty in diversity by sharing stories of inspiring women with complementary headshot art portraits. We loved the idea of storytelling combined with art so much that we created Bull Pin University, a comic series about seven girls lost in a universe where women’s rights don’t exist.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing in life worth having comes easy. Needless to say, it has not been a smooth road. We’ve been subjected to many challenges along the way. Many of which I did not know how to handle immediately. However, everything happens for a reason. I also think that God has a plan for each of us, although sometimes, life may not be as transparent as we’d like it to be. However, staying rooted in faith and having a robust and tenacious attitude toward life can make all the difference.

For example, when we first started writing Bull Pin, it was clear that we needed to rethink the characters’ plot and purpose. We took a long break from writing and picked it back up with a new story and an even better plot. It taught me that some things are worth rewriting. In other words, never be too egotistic to self-correct and try again.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Regarding my involvement with Grlpire, I am a writer, storyteller, and artistic visionary. I write all of Grlpire’s comic book content and direct the art details with the help of a fabulous co-writer. I love what we do and what we publish because there is meaning behind all of our products.

All of our items are by-products of art. For example, we publish a new zodiac journal monthly with a new (diverse) illustrated cover. We pride ourselves on the diversity and inclusion represented in our art. No two skin tones are the same when it comes to Grlpire products.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Life is full of lessons. My journey has been nothing short of reminding me that everything can be a lesson- the wins and losses.
