Daily Inspiration: Meet Vera Rees

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vera Rees.

Hi Vera, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My first job in nightlife was heading the Artist Relations department at a new club in Times Square called Nebula in 2021. I met Rob Toma there, who is the owner of NY house music brand, Teksupport. Him and I developed a relationship there, so I started handling artist relations for Teksupport. A year after that, I left Nebula and helped open Chelsea lounge called Hearsay, also handling the music and DJs. I’ve always had a passion for music and the energy of nightlife, and recently moved to Miami to manage a Vinyl lounge called Lion’s Den.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle for me has always been dealing with the late night hours and the way that affects my sleep schedule / daily routine. As much as I love my career, it’s not easy to lead a healthy, consistent lifestyle while being in this industry. It takes constant effort and support.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At the moment, my main focus is managing the lounge, Lion’s Den, in Miami. I oversee all the operations, staffing and hospitality, as well as graphic design, social media and event creation. It’s really exciting because the venue as a whole is so big so there’s always so much going on. We have a big restaurant called Fooqs downstairs, so I’m learning a lot about the restaurant industry as well! I’m also lucky to be able to have a few remote jobs – I manage NYC based artist Jivan Calderone along with booking his gigs, and also handle the logistics for DJ Dennis Ferrer. The best thing about my career is that I’m able to learn about the different parts of the business – from the aspect of the venue/promoter as well as the artist. I’m proud of myself for figuring out how to make my passion a career – I love to work and no day ever looks the same!

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
This might sound funny, but I love having a good non alcoholic drink to keep me energized, it helps me stay up late at work. My favorite is the Ito En Oi Ocha Cold Brew Matcha Green Tea! The other biggest thing that helps keep me balanced and energized is working out, or even just pushing myself to get outside for a long walk.
